Description of the workplace:

Gjøvik Art and Culture School is an active and development-oriented cultural school with a high academic level and with a wide range of music and visual arts. The school has approx. 440 students and 25 employees, and plays a central role in the city's cultural life.

The teaching includes classical music, rhythmic music genres, visual arts subjects and various adapted offers in music, stage, dance and visual arts. Projects, events and interdisciplinary collaboration are an important part of the school's activities.

The school has ambitions for further development and growth, with a particular focus on recruitment and expansion of the offer.

Gjøvik has a rich cultural life with strong cultural and volunteer environments.

The culture school works under the vision "A good place to be, a good place to learn", and is currently located in "Telegrafen" in the center of Gjøvik. At the same time, plans are being worked on for a new cultural center, where the culture school is intended to have central premises.

Description of the position:

The position is primarily about teaching visual arts subjects for culture school students of all ages. The position is permanent and up to 70%. However, we are open to dialog about the size of the position based on the applicant's competence and wishes.

The position also involves a professional and coordinating responsibility for the culture school's section for visual arts, including further development of offers, collaboration and recruitment.

We currently teach groups of children, young people and adults, including adapted teaching offers in visual arts. We are therefore looking for a teacher who is confident in meeting students with different conditions, needs and experiences.

The position involves work during the day, afternoon/evening and some weekends.Tasks:
  • Plan, implement and evaluate teaching in visual arts subjects.
  • Contribute to the development and coordination of the culture school's visual arts offerings.
  • Participate in the School of Music and Performing Arts' meetings, projects, performances and exhibitions, etc.
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary projects and collaboration across the School of Music and Performing Arts' subject areas.
  • Contribute to recruitment and development work for the School of Music and Performing Arts in general and visual arts in particular.
  • Collaborate with the School of Music and Performing Arts' other subject areas and with voluntary cultural life in the municipality.
  • Other tasks can be added to the position as needed.
Qualifications:

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Formal art education (3 years or more) in at least one relevant field of visual arts.
  • PPU or other relevant pedagogical education.
  • Experience from teaching or other pedagogical work with children and young people.
  • Broad expertise in techniques, materials and forms of expression in the visual arts.
  • Good Norwegian language skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to use digital tools in teaching, communication and administrative work.

It is an advantage if you also have:

  • Experience from cultural schools or similar activities.
  • Competence in ceramics and/or textiles.
  • Experience from inclusive and adapted teaching for students with different learning assumptions and assistance needs.

Other:

  • Applicants with long and relevant experience may be considered for exemption from the educational requirements.
  • Approved police certificate required.

  • You have a strong commitment to art, culture and creative work, and thrive on collaboration both internally and externally.
  • You are flexible and versatile - with good abilities to organize teaching in visual arts subjects for very different children, young people and adults.
  • You have the ability to combine artistic freedom with structure, collaboration and holistic thinking.
  • You want to contribute to the further development of an inclusive and future-oriented academic environment in visual arts.
