Become a supervisor for children in foster care
Do you want to make a difference in a child’s life?
The Child Welfare Services in Hamar are looking for trustworthy and dedicated adults who want to serve as monitors for children living in foster care.
As a supervisor, you are an independent individual who meets with the child regularly and helps ensure that the child’s voice is heard. You should be a trusted adult who can talk to the child about how they are doing and convey the child’s views to the municipality.
This is an important role that helps ensure that children in foster care receive the care and support they need.

Job Responsibilities

As a supervisor, you will:

  • meet with the child regularly, usually four times a year
  • conduct conversations with the child
  • be attentive to the child’s well-being, development, and care situation
  • write a report after each supervision visit
  • collaborate with child welfare services as needed
  • participate in training and supervision

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who:

  • is a confident and stable adult
  • has good interpersonal skills
  • is interested in children’s development and life circumstances
  • can communicate well with both children and adults
  • are observant, independent, and responsible
  • can express yourself well in writing

Experience working with children and youth is a plus, but personal suitability will be given great weight.

Personal Qualities

You must:

  • be at least 25 years old
  • have good interpersonal skills
  • provide a satisfactory police background check
  • be fluent in Norwegian, both spoken and written
  • be able to participate in a course to become a supervisor

You cannot have such a close relationship with the foster home or the child that it could affect your independence in the assignment.
