Film and audiovisual art forms are among the most important cultural expressions of our time; they shape our lives and societies and are vital to maintaining a vibrant democracy. Our students create the stories of tomorrow and contribute to our shared national memory. We work with a wide range of narratives for all platforms, genres, and audiences. We train award-winning filmmakers, and there is hardly a drama, television, or game production in Norway in which one of our students has not been involved.

The Associate Dean for Research and Development is responsible for further developing and monitoring the faculty’s activities in research and artistic development. Collaboration and development among the various academic communities will be crucial for innovation and forward-looking initiatives in an arts field and industry undergoing major technological change. You will inspire and motivate others to achieve outstanding results and ensure coherence and relevance between R&D/artistic development activities and the academic programs. 

We are looking for someone who is committed to achieving results and fostering development, and who also has insight into international and national artistic development work and research within the audiovisual field. Key responsibilities during the fixed-term appointment include highlighting the excellent work being done at the faculty and seeking effective methods for formal documentation. 

The position is part of the dean’s management team.

The associate dean will be appointed to a full-time (100%) fixed-term position for 4 years, with the option to apply for two additional terms (12 years total).


What will you be working on?

Key areas of responsibility

  • Together with the dean, have overall responsibility for strengthening and further developing the faculty’s strategy for research and artistic development work
  • Manage and further develop a robust framework for artistic development work and research.
  • Participate in efforts to build national and international expertise in artistic development work.
  • Work to implement the University’s adopted strategies within the field of research

Academic Activities

  • Contribute to the further development of the Ph.D. program and researcher training at the faculty
  • Contribute to capacity building and the recruitment of research talent to the faculty
  • Serve as the faculty’s representative on INN’s central R&D committee and participate in other relevant forums as a delegate from the dean
  • Promote a strong R&D/artistic development culture with research groups collaborating regionally, nationally, and internationally

Finance and Administration

  • Participate in the faculty’s budget process and processes related to the management of funds allocated for research and artistic development work. 
  • Monitor and help ensure that the financial resources allocated to artistic development work are utilized in the best possible way in accordance with the faculty’s strategies

Other duties may be assigned to the position as needed.


Who are you?

You must have:

  • The title of artistic professor or associate professor in a field related to the faculty’s academic disciplines, in accordance with the requirements set forth in Regulations to the University and College Act
  • Documented experience leading artistic development work.
  • Insight into the development and use of digital tools in teaching and research.
  • Insight into international and national trends and developments in research and artistic development work.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in Norwegian/Scandinavian and English.

The following are desirable:

  • Experience with national and international research collaboration, research management, and research acquisition.
  • Experience with PhD education as a supervisor and program management at the institutional level. Experience with artistic Ph.D. programs through completion of a doctoral degree, supervision, and/or program management at the institutional level.
  • Experience with externally funded artistic development work or research.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and build effective teams. 
  • Leadership that promotes interdisciplinary research.
  • Ability to initiate and implement change processes.
  • Ability to build networks and strong collaborative relationships locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.

The position requires a high work capacity, strong execution skills, and generally good collaborative abilities.

About the Faculty of Film, TV, and Games.

Inland University has brought together the country’s strongest academic communities for arts education at the highest level in film, TV, and games. The faculty consists of the Norwegian Film School, the TV School in Lillehammer, and the Game School in Hamar, and has approximately 110 employees and 550 students. The faculty encompasses technology, scientific research, and artistic development, offering programs at the bachelor’s and master’s levels, as well as an innovative and internationally recognized doctoral program in artistic development. The faculty aims to be a national center of excellence at the international level for audiovisual disciplines and artistic expression.

The TV School, founded in 1987, collaborates closely with the TV industry and offers a unique multi-camera training program in the Nordic region. Since its founding in 1997, the Norwegian Film School has trained innovative and creative filmmakers for feature films and TV drama in Norway and the Nordic region. The program has helped elevate Norwegian film, enjoys significant international recognition, and collaborates closely with the film industry and Nordic film education institutions. The Game School was established in Hamar in 2003; it boasts a strong academic environment that has been at the forefront of game education both nationally and in the Nordic region, and collaborates closely with other institutions in the region. The Game School is recognized as an educational partner for Unreal and Unity, trains game developers, animators, technologists, and programmers, and has established a unique interdisciplinary bachelor’s program in artificial intelligence.
