About the position

The Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, Section of Health and Exercise Physiology now has a vacancy for a 100% permanent position as Associate Professor.

The Section of Health and Exercise Physiology offers studies in sports science and has extensive research and laboratory activities. The position includes both teaching and R&D tasks, and will be closely associated with the section's molecular biology laboratory and the Research Group Trainome. The section is part of the Department of Public Health and Sports Science, a department that is committed to contributing to increased competence in exercise and health, public health work, the role of the coach, teacher in physical education and sports science, physiotherapy or dentistry. The section's main place of work is at the Lillehammer campus, but teaching at other campuses may occur.

The department has a strong and active academic environment and many of the department's employees are affiliated with research groups. These have research projects in collaboration with relevant academic environments nationally and internationally. The faculty's PhD program "Health and Welfare" (HELVEL) is an interdisciplinary research education based on social science, health science, public health science and sports science.


Responsibilities and duties

  • The position involves theoretical and practical teaching in exercise science, exercise physiology, muscle physiology, research methods and laboratory work at bachelor's and master's level, as well as supervision of students from bachelor's to PhD level.level.
  • Special responsibility for academic follow-up of laboratory and biobank activities at the section. This includes the laboratory for molecular and cell biological methods, where key analyses include protein extraction, DNA and RNA extraction, Western blot, qPCR and immunohistochemistry, as well as the research biobank Trainome.
  • Operation and security related to biobank infrastructure, data processing and availability of biobank data.
  • HSE responsibility and follow-up of procurement and administration of equipment and consumables are included.
  • Contribution to the strategic development of the subject area's research portfolio, with particular emphasis on acquisition work.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Ph. in sports science, preferably in exercise physiology
  • Solid competence in exercise/muscle physiology, exercise science and scientific method
  • Broad experience with molecular and/or cell biological laboratory work
  • Experience with professional-administrative coordination of laboratory, including HSE work
  • Experience with theoretical and practical teaching from the university and university college sector
  • Experience with teaching and supervision of students and staff in the molecular lab
  • Good written and oral presentation skills in Norwegian/Scandinavian and English

Desired qualifications

  • Experience with protein/RNA/DNA extraction, Western blot, qPCR and immunohistochemistry
  • Experience from work with research biobanks and registers
  • Experience with HSE work related to molecular biology laboratory operations
  • Experience with teaching and assessment in sports science courses
  • Experience with supervision of bachelor's and/or master's theses
  • Experience from acquisition work related to laboratory activities
  • Preferable ICT skills

Pedagogical competence
Documented practical-pedagogical education and experience from teaching and supervision at university and college level, Cf. Regulations to the Universities and University Colleges Act. Applicants who are unable to document pedagogical competence at the time of appointment are obliged to complete the university's course in pedagogy or equivalent within two years of appointment.
