About the position

The Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences - Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences (HHS) is the largest faculty under the Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences, and has a total of approx. 7000 students and 300 employees. Our Department of Law, Philosophy and International Studies now has a vacancy for a permanent position as professor or associate professor in law with special emphasis on procedural and criminal law.

The department consists of approx. 35 employees and offers bachelor's programs in law, international studies and philosophy, politics and economics, as well as a one-year program in international studies and philosophy. The department also offers continuing education in health law and labor law. Our research is organized in three well-established research groups in philosophy, European and Global Studies (EUGLOB) and law development. The department has had a strong research development in recent years.

The Department of Law consists of 16 employees and has its main workplace at the Lillehammer campus. With us, you will join an environment with a focus on quality in teaching and research. We have high ambitions and are working towards the establishment of a master's degree.


Responsibilities and duties

As part of our academic environment, you will have a varied working day. Your most important tasks will be:

  • Research and academic development work in the field of law
  • Participation in research groups and acquisition work
  • Planning and development of studies, taking care of academic responsibility and carrying out teaching assignments in law courses offered by the department
  • Student contact

The positions are primarily related to teaching and research in compulsory courses at the bachelor's level, as well as courses in the planned master's program. The person will have a special responsibility for developing courses in criminal law, criminal procedure and civil procedure in collaboration with the academic staff who work with this at the department today. In its assessment, the department will take into account the teaching needs that must be covered at the time of appointment and in the longer term. In your application, you must explain which subject areas you can teach.

Qualifications

Formal competence:

  • You must qualify for the position of professor or senior lecturer in accordance with the requirements set out in the Regulations to the Universities and University Colleges Act.
  • You must have a 5-year master's degree in law or equivalent education. Applicants with education from Norwegian educational institutions are preferred, as a high level of proficiency in Norwegian law is required.
  • The language of instruction is Norwegian and you must have good written and oral presentation skills in Norwegian and English. Norwegian language skills of at least level B2 are required for employment, in accordance with the Regulations to the Universities and University Colleges Act.

Experience competence:

  • You must have a documented high level of proficiency in several of the legal subjects offered at the department, as well as in subject areas such as criminal law, criminal procedure and/or civil procedure.
  • Teaching experience at bachelor's and/or master's level is desirable.
  • Relevant professional experience from Norwegian practical legal life such as the courts, prosecution authority or similar, counts positively.
  • You should have experience in building networks and contributing to the acquisition and implementation of research projects.
  • It is desirable that you have digital competence related to student work.

Pedagogical competence:

  • Documented practical pedagogical education and experience from teaching and supervision at university and college level, cf. Regulations to the Universities and Colleges Act. Applicants who cannot document pedagogical competence at the time of appointment will be given the opportunity to complete the university's course in pedagogy or equivalent within two years of appointment.

When assessing and ranking qualified applicants, emphasis will be placed on:

  • Quality of attached academic work and teaching experience. When assessing qualifications, career stage and any career breaks will be taken into account.
  • Applicants must be able to teach several of the legal courses at the time of appointment.
  • In its assessment, the department will take into account which teaching needs it needs to cover.
  • Experience in applying for external research funding.

The assessment of which candidate is best qualified is based on an overall assessment of education, experience and personal suitability and other qualification requirements as formulated in the advertisement, in addition to motivation for the position.

The position and associated duties must be performed in accordance with applicable laws and regulations for government employees, including the Act on Control of Exports of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology, etc. Candidates who, after assessment of the application and attachments, conflict with the criteria in the latter act, will not be able to take up the position at the University of Inland Norway. Necessary approvals must be maintained throughout the employment relationship.
