About the faculty, the department and the position

On August 1, 2024, the Norwegian Film School, the TV School and the Game School were merged into a new artistic faculty for audiovisual subjects. The faculty takes responsibility for artistic education at the highest level in film, TV and games, with the aim of being nationally leading and internationally recognized.

The TV School offers education in creative, technical and administrative functions related to professional program production and documentary film. The education focuses on storytelling, project development and collaboration with the TV industry to ensure industry-oriented and relevant education.

The position as associate professor in documentary and TV directing is a 20% position, and mainly centers around teaching and supervision related to the students' graduation film.


Responsibilities and duties

  • Teaching and supervision: Teach and supervise bachelor students in TV and documentary directing in both practical and theoretical subjects. The program emphasizes giving students training in relevant disciplines such as idea development, storytelling and different idioms; giving them practice in documentary work methods and creative processes, as well as giving the students room to develop their artistic voice and social commitment. will work together with students from the TV School's other study programs.
  • Professional development work: Contribute to the development and renewal of the documentary and TV directing subject at the TV School in line with new production methods and changes in the documentary and TV industry.
  • Planning and implementation of teaching: Responsibility for study administration tasks such as course management, exam administration, grading, evaluations and planning of teaching programs in collaboration with involved parties.
  • Practical direction: Facilitate teaching, and lead and support students in projects that promote independent learning in practical skills.
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration: Planning and implementation of interdisciplinary teaching courses together with colleagues and parallel lines at the TV School.
  • Industry collaboration: Contribute to a continuous and close collaboration with the documentary and TV industry and other external partners to ensure mutually relevant industry insights and updating of the educational offering.e tasks can be added to the position as needed.

Qualifications

Formal qualifications:

  • You must qualify for the position of associate professor in accordance with the requirements stated in Regulations to the Universities and University Colleges Act.
  • Relevant higher education in documentary and TV (minimum master's degree), or documented practical experience at an equivalent level in professional work in the same field.
  • Good written and oral presentation skills in Norwegian/Scandinavian and English.

Experience competence:

  • Experience with program production in various genres
  • Experience as an executive director in TV and documentary directing
  • Broad understanding of content production and broadcasting/distribution, as well as interest in and insight into production technology innovations in documentary and TV production.
  • Experience from practical teaching and supervision in higher education.
  • Experience with educational development and project work in the higher education sector is an advantage.
  • Experience with universal design and forms of assessment is desirable.
  • Experience with educational use of LMS (eg. Experience with pedagogical use of LMS (e.g. Canvas) is desirable

Pedagogical competence:

  • Documented practical pedagogical education and experience from teaching and supervision at university and university college level, cf. regulations to the Universities and University Colleges Act. . Applicants who are unable to document pedagogical competence at the time of appointment are obliged to complete the university's course in pedagogy or equivalent within two years of appointment.

Personal qualities

  • Professionally up to date, structured, enterprising and flexible.
  • Ability to work independently, create good cooperation and share expertise with colleagues.
  • Good at communicating and creating inclusive learning environments.
  • Personal suitability, especially the ability to implement and work independently, will be emphasized.
