Innlandet County Municipality has an extensive investment program for the county road network in the coming years, with significant focus on bridges. To strengthen our implementation capabilities and technical expertise, we are now establishing four new full-time positions in bridge design, where you will play a central role as a technical leader and driving force in the projects. With us, you’ll become part of a strong bridge engineering community within your own unit and will also be part of a well-established design environment within the section.

We work on a wide range of projects —from feasibility studies and concept selection to detailed design and construction plans—and you will actively contribute to setting the direction, ensuring the quality of solutions, and leading the technical work on some of the region’s most important transportation projects.

At the same time, our work is not just about new investments. We are also responsible for the comprehensive maintenance of existing structures—from minor measures to large and complex rehabilitation projects. Here, you will play an active role in setting priorities, developing effective measures, and ensuring solutions that safeguard service life, accessibility, emergency preparedness, and public safety.

About the Unit

• Innlandet County is responsible for approximately 6,850 km of county roads, making it a key player in community development in Innlandet. This includes responsibility for the operation, maintenance, planning, improvement, and investment in the entire county road network. Our mission is to build a modern, forward-looking, and flexible organization to fulfill our responsibilities regarding traffic safety and accessibility.

• Innlandet County owns approximately 1,250 county road bridges and structures, and the Bridges Unit is responsible for managing them.

• The new positions are part of the Bridges Unit, which is one of 11 units in the Roads Section, located within the Transportation Department. The Road Section consists of approximately 180 employees. Our employees describe exciting workdays filled with meaningful tasks, autonomy, and a positive work environment—all with a healthy dose of humor in everything we do. The employees in the Road Section are spread across several of Innlandet County Municipality’s office locations. The Bridges Unit has a total of 8 employees and is now expanding with these new hires.

• The Bridges Unit contributes to all construction projects—including both maintenance and capital projects—across all phases: assessment, planning, design, construction, and bridge management. This therefore requires broad and close collaboration both within Innlandet County Municipality and with other external partners.

About the Position

• 4 full-time (100%) permanent positions available immediately
• The positions are organized within the Bru unit and are part of a larger professional environment in the Road Section
• Work locations are Hamar, Lillehammer, or Gjøvik, but we can offer various forms of flexibility for candidates with the right qualifications.
• The positions focus primarily on feasibility studies, preliminary design, and detailed design of new structures and modifications to existing structures
• These positions will help ensure that Innlandet County Council complies with regulations regarding society’s requirements for high and uniform standards for load-bearing structures on the county road network with regard to safety and functionality. Reference is made, among other things, to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration’s handbook “N400 Bridge Design”
• The positions may involve some travel within Innlandet County, as well as participation in conferences and courses
• Employees in these positions will be assigned a job code based on their education and experience, in accordance with applicable laws and agreements
• The county government is subject to the Security Act. These positions may involve access to information protected under the Security Act. The successful candidate must be eligible for authorization at the RESTRICTED level. Authorization is carried out in accordance with the Security Act and the organization’s security regulations

Job Responsibilities

• feasibility studies, preliminary design, engineering design, 3D modeling, and dimensioning of bridge structures
• preparation and quality assurance of technical documentation and bidding documents
• monitoring and oversight of external design work within the field of bridge engineering
• serving as a technical resource across all project phases (planning, construction, maintenance, and operation)
• extensive collaboration both internally and externally with the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, consultants, authorities, and contractors
• other related duties

Qualification Requirements

• You have a relevant college or university degree, with a minimum of 3 years of study
• Extensive and relevant experience in the field of bridges and structures will be emphasized and may compensate for a lack of formal education
• You have strong skills in using ICT tools
• You have experience designing new bridges and structures
• You have experience with load-bearing capacity calculations and maintenance measures for existing bridges and structures
• You are familiar with regulations and standards within the field
• You hold a Class B driver’s license
