Randsfjordsambandet has an opening for a full-time (100%) deckhand position aboard the M/S Randsfjordferja Elrond. Suitable candidates will be hired as a seaman or deckhand based on their qualifications. Personal suitability is given high priority.

About the Organization

Innlandet County Municipality owns and operates the M/S “Randsfjordferja Elrond.” The vessel is brand new and entered service in January 2022. The ferry service on Randsfjorden is the only year-round ferry service in the Innlandet region.

The ferry route between Tangen and Horn has a long history and has been transporting both people and cars between the east and west sides of Randsfjorden for over 50 years. The service is particularly important for the local community of Bjoneroa, commuters, and school transportation in the area. The ferry is based at the Tangen ferry terminal, located on the west side of Randsfjorden, south of Bjoneroa. Horn Ferry Terminal is located on the east side of Randsfjorden along County Road 34 between Brandbu and Dokka.

The crew on the Randsfjord ferry route currently works in a 3-shift rotation with a favorable schedule.

Innlandet County provides housing for crew members who cannot commute home.

About the Position

• A full-time (100%) permanent position
• Sailor or deckhand on board
• The successful candidate will be assigned a job code based on the requirements of the position, education, and experience, in accordance with applicable laws and agreements
• Thorough training will be provided
• Reporting location at Tangen Ferry Terminal in Randsfjorden

Job Responsibilities

• Focus primarily on safety, including deck watch duties
• Daily preparation of the vessel, deck work, and routine maintenance on board
• Engine room and ticket office duties
• loading, unloading, and stowage
• passenger handling
• other duties assigned by the captain or shipping company

Qualification Requirements

• For the position of seaman, the following is required:
  • a journeyman’s certificate as a seaman, or a seaman’s proficiency certificate in accordance with STCW78(2010), or valid sea service to qualify as a seaman (in accordance with the Qualification Regulations, Section 79)
  • basic safety course IMO50 in accordance with STCW II Table A-VI/1-1/-2/-3/-4
  • boatman’s certificate (Rescue Craft/MOB) in accordance with STCW II Table A-VI/2
  • Bridge Watch Certificate in accordance with STCW A-II
  • Passenger and Crisis Management Course in accordance with STCW VII Table A-V/2
  • Medical Certificate for Seafarers
    
    
• For the position of deckhand, the following is required:
  • valid sea service to qualify as a deckhand (in accordance with the Qualification Regulations §78)
  • basic safety course IMO50 in accordance with STCW II Table A-VI/1-1/-2/-3/-4
  • boatman’s certificate (Rescue Craft/MOB) in accordance with STCW II Table A-VI/2
  • Bridge Watch Certificate in accordance with STCW A-II
  • Passenger and Crisis Management Course in accordance with STCW VII Table A-V/2
  • Medical Certificate for Seafarers

Applicants with sufficient sea time to perform engine room duties (36 months) and candidates residing in Eastern Norway will be given priority.

Experience on battery-powered vessels is an advantage but not a requirement
