About the unit

The unit is responsible for the operational road safety and traffic tasks in the Transport Department. This involves responsibility for ensuring that road safety measures in accordance with the Action Program for County Roads in Inland Norway are implemented, and we are road safety advisors in the department's other projects and tasks. We carry out road safety audits, inspections and risk assessments. The unit is also responsible for sign management and other traffic-related tasks such as traffic coordination, ATK establishment and processing applications for events on county roads. We organize internal traffic safety courses and courses for our operating contractors, as well as keeping management, politicians and others updated on statistics, incidents, new professional knowledge, etc. We also answer questions and inquiries about road safety from citizens, municipalities, the media and politicians. We collaborate extensively with the police, Trygg Trafikk, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, other county councils and municipalities, and we contribute to tasks for FTU (the county's road safety committee).

We are looking for someone who

  • is a fearless and open relationship builder
  • is committed to and interested in road safety work
  • likes working in teams, and see the benefit of good processes and procedures to arrive at good solutions
  • enjoy a hectic working day with many balls in the air

We offer

  • good and committed working environment
  • meaningful tasks that contribute to increased road safety on the county road network
  • salary by agreement
  • Municipal terms of employment with good pension and insurance schemes

About the position

  • A lot of travel around the county of Innlandet must be expected

Tasks

The traffic coordinator will be the traffic liaison between internal and external client environments that carry out measures on the county road network, the traffic safety environment, communication advisors and the Norwegian Public Roads Administration. In order to safeguard traffic safety and traffic flow on county roads in the best possible way in the event of road closures and detours, the traffic coordinator must be involved in the early project phase. This is to be able to plan and assess traffic consequences and risks holistically, and in the context of other activities on the road network, including dialogue with municipalities and any others that may be affected.

The traffic coordinator must be able to have a practical and solution-oriented approach within the framework of laws and regulations we relate to. Various tools for information about traffic and incidents must be used in the work. In the course of 2026, the plan is for the county councils to gain access to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration's Activity Calendar, and the traffic coordinator will have to familiarize themselves with and use this tool. The activity calendar is a web- and map-based solution that retrieves data from APV (work notification on roads - application and case processing) and shows planned and ongoing activity on the road network.

The position is newly created, and we want an employee who has the expertise and experience to help shape the position and propose a routine in the organization for how we best solve the task.

It is desirable that our employees in the unit have different and complex skills and backgrounds, in order to complement each other in a road safety team. All employees in the unit will to a greater or lesser extent have to vary and adapt to the tasks that need to be solved at any given time, so the position also means that you must be able to contribute to the implementation of the unit's other tasks.
