The Municipality of Jokkmokk is now seeking a Waste Management Director responsible for leading, developing, and overseeing the municipality’s work in waste management, recycling, reuse, and park maintenance. Waste management is a vital part of the municipality’s basic services to residents, businesses, and visitors. The role includes, among other things, trash collection, recycling centers, customer service, sorting, reuse, public outreach, and the development of sustainable waste management throughout the municipality. Currently, park maintenance is also included in waste management operations. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES As Waste Management Director, you will have overall responsibility for the municipality’s waste management operations. You will lead day-to-day operations, plan for the short and long term, and drive development initiatives in the areas of waste, recycling, reuse, and park maintenance. The role includes, among other things: • leading, planning, and monitoring waste management operations • overseeing the operation and development of the municipality’s recycling centers • overseeing the planning, coordination, and monitoring of the municipality’s park maintenance • managing personnel planning, supervision, and the work environment • monitoring finances, budgets, fees, contracts, and operational goals • coordinating efforts with contractors, government agencies, residents, businesses, and other stakeholders • ensuring high-quality service and clear information for the municipality’s residents • Develop methods for sorting, reusing, and reducing waste volumes • Participate in procurement processes, projects, investments, and reinvestments within the operational area • Help ensure that operations are conducted in a safe, efficient, and environmentally sustainable manner  You will serve as a key link between operational activities, the municipality’s residents, contractors, and other parts of the community and infrastructure function. The role involves both hands-on involvement in operations and strategic responsibility for development, quality, and follow-up. QUALIFICATIONS We are looking for someone with relevant education in fields such as environmental studies, engineering, urban planning, logistics, operations management, or other education deemed equivalent by the employer. You may also have acquired equivalent knowledge through professional experience. Experience in waste management, recycling, reuse operations, municipal technical operations, or other operations critical to society is a plus. Experience in supervisory roles, budget management, procurement, contractor oversight, or working in a politically governed organization is also a plus. We would like you to have: • strong ability to lead and establish structure in practical operations • experience in personnel management and occupational health and safety • a strong understanding of finance and experience with budget and cost monitoring • the ability to communicate clearly with residents, employees, contractors, and government agencies • an interest in environmental issues, service, outdoor spaces, and sustainable community development • strong administrative skills and experience working digitally As a person, you are confident, clear, and solution-oriented. You collaborate easily but are also capable of making decisions and driving initiatives forward. You thrive on moving between planning and practical reality, and have the ability to see both the big picture and the details in an operation that affects many people every day. A Class B driver’s license is required; a Class C driver’s license is preferred. Employment type: Permanent position. Duration: Permanent; start date: To be agreed upon.
