The Umeå Institute of Education in collaboration with seven municipal school principals in the northern region will start the second round of work-integrated teacher training in grades 4-6 in the fall of 2026. The program is aimed at those who want to work 50 percent with students in a school and at the same time train to become a qualified primary school teacher in grades 4-6. The primary teacher program, grades 4-6, comprises 240 credits and extends over 5 years and includes two summer courses. The education is given at a distance with a 75 percent study rate. Two days a week (Thursdays and Fridays) are for scheduled studies and three days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) are possible for scheduled work. The program includes a few physical meetings per semester, these usually take place at Umeå University. Kiruna municipality is one of the municipalities that has created services for those who want to study to become a teacher in grades 4-6 and work at the same time. WORK TASKS You will teach as an unqualified teacher in grades 4-6. The assignment involves working with colleagues and teams to plan, implement and follow up teaching. Contact and cooperation with guardians is an important part of the work. You will have a mentor to support you in your work at the school. QUALIFICATIONS We are looking for you who are interested in working and studying to become a teacher in grades 4-6. Previous experience of working with children/young people is an advantage. In your role as a teacher, it is important that you create good relationships with your students and can be a clear leader. You have good communication skills and work well with colleagues and other contacts. Combining work and study requires you to be structured, self-motivated and persistent. A prerequisite for employment is that you have applied and been admitted to the work-integrated education at Umeå Institute of Education, Umeå University.
