Acting research assistant Agglomeration Laboratory

If you are interested in technology and mechanics, you have the courage to act to solve technical problems. Do you see yourself as a meticulous person who likes to take initiative, are a team player.

Does it sound interesting to be part of LKAB's Research and Development team? Then we think you should keep reading!

The most important job of the future

We want to lead the transformation of our industry towards a sustainable future. And in the same way that we want to change the world, we want to develop everyone who is with us on the journey, personally and professionally. Do you want to help shape the future of the world's mining and mineral industry?

Your role

We are currently looking for someone with a technical background who wants to be part of LKAB's transformation journey towards CO2-free products. In order to complete that journey, we invest in more advanced equipment and upgrade our current equipment, both process-wise but also mechanically. We do this so that we can test future product and process concepts on a lab and pilot scale.

Our Agglomeration Laboratory is an important resource in LKAB's research into the refining processes and its future possibilities for a changeover for CO2-free pellet production. The laboratory is a natural meeting point for LKAB's research resources. We have high-tech equipment, which is used to study both the cold part, rolling bullets, and the hot part, burning bullets. Methods and instrumentation vary, which means tests from microscale (a few grams) to pilot scale (several hundred kilos of sample material).

The work is largely of a practical nature with a smaller proportion of administrative work.

You have this with you

You are meticulous, have a technical background, like to take initiative, are responsible and a team player, motivated by challenges, solution-focused, handy and able to carry out simple to medium repairs.

The work requires that you can both work independently but also closely together with others.

Our research equipment is specially developed for our business and is not available on the commercial market, therefore it is important that you are curious and want to learn the equipment and its process so that you can assess the function and carry out troubleshooting if necessary in order to yourself or with help by others fix the error.

You must have an approved upper secondary education, preferably with a technical focus. Experience from having worked with technical issues is necessary. Computer skills and knowledge of the English language are a requirement. The position requires forklift and traverse training, which you will receive in the position. B driving license is a requirement.

Commitment, responsibility and innovation are important watchwords for you in your work. LKAB strives for diversity and an even gender distribution in our workplaces.

This is what you get

  • Motivation program that rewards success

  • Health care and study support as well as access to art association, leisure association, mountain cabins and family activities

  • Enhanced parental allowance of up to 90 percent of your regular salary for up to six months (after employment for one year)

  • Help and support in case of illness or in matters of work environment, health, wellness and rehabilitation

  • Protective and terminal glasses and compensation for dental care

  • Possibility to apply for scholarships during studies for both you and your children

  • Possibility to join our pension and insurance program with favorable prices

Start: by agreement, the temporary position extends to 31/10/2025

Location: Malmberget

Scope: Full-time, daytime, time-limited

Why you should work with us!

We are leading the transformation of our industry towards a sustainable future. Our co-workers, a new world standard for mining, sponge iron and critical minerals will be key as we make our production carbon-free by 2045.

Global greenhouse gas emissions must be reduced significantly and within a short period of time. Tackling the climate problem will require a transformation – a significant challenge as global energy consumption is heavily linked to fossil fuels. It requires systemic changes that will take time and require a high degree of collaboration between industry and policy makers.

Based on our vision and mission, the strategy for LKAB charts the way forward towards zero carbon dioxide emissions from our own processes and products by 2045. It also secures our long-term competitiveness.
