RECAT - Research Center for Advanced Battery Technology, is a new initiative at LTU that aims to strengthen education and research linked to battery production and related activities such as supply chain and life cycle management for batteries, vehicles and other applications, including recycling and circularity. As part of this initiative, LTU is recruiting an assistant professor focusing on digitalization, real-time control and IT/OT integration for battery production, including digital twins, model predictive control, industrial IoT and advanced automation architectures. The goal is to develop next-generation production systems that are sustainable, data-driven and scalable. Subject description Cyber-physical systems focus on integrated software and application architectures with implementations of highly distributed embedded systems that interact with each other and their environment to enable safe, goal-driven, autonomous and evolvable solutions. Duties and responsibilities An Assistant Professor will be involved in teaching, pedagogical development and research at the University. Assistant Professors should also keep up to date with international developments in the subject and supervise PhD students. They are expected to contribute to the university's development work, work to obtain external research funding for the subject, both nationally and internationally, and be available for management and administrative tasks. Duties also include leading research projects, communicating research results through high-quality scientific publications, and being active in the research community of the subject and participating in international networks. A person who is assessed or recruited to a position as an assistant professor is also admitted as an associate professor, if not already admitted as an associate professor at another university. You are also expected to take an active role in developing the university's research environment in production physics, digitalization and sustainable manufacturing, including participation in centres of excellence and collaborations with leading industrial and academic partners. Eligibility Eligible for appointment as an Assistant Professor are those who have demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical excellence. Equal attention shall be paid to the assessment of pedagogical and scientific excellence. To meet the requirements for appointment as an assistant professor, the applicant shall - demonstrate a research profile with clear progression after the thesis work and scientific contributions equivalent to at least two doctoral theses including the doctoral thesis - have worked as an independent researcher, including - experience of research-related positions of trust, for example as a reviewer for journals and/or opponent - experience of applying for and being awarded external funding for research and/or development projects in competition - experience of having had a leading role in research projects - having published together with researchers in research environments other than your own - have experience of supervision at doctoral level and have acted as co-supervisor for at least one doctoral student for at least two years, unless there are exceptional reasons for otherwise - demonstrate pedagogical competence through reflective experience, teaching skills and teaching development - have completed a course in higher education pedagogy equivalent to 7.5 credits, or have acquired equivalent knowledge in another way - demonstrate the ability to interact with the surrounding society, for example by - making new knowledge available to the wider community - incorporate societal needs into research and/or education contexts. Evaluation criteria The following evaluation criteria apply to this position: - Scientific excellence - Teaching skills - Other assessment criteria Other assessment criteria (in order of priority): - Proven scientific excellence in cyber-physical systems, automation or related fields. - Proven experience in applying these competences in industrial contexts, preferably in manufacturing or energy systems. - Strong track record of publications in internationally recognized journals and conferences. - Experience in supervising PhD students until graduation. - Demonstrated ability to attract competitive funding. Meritorious qualifications include experience in battery manufacturing, digital twin development, IT/OT integration or advanced model-based control.
