Luleå University of Technology is in a phase of expansion and is launching an initiative to strengthen research and education in cybersecurity by establishing a new research group in the field. This initiative is linked to the university’s successful computer science environment, which includes several strong research groups offering excellent opportunities for synergy. We therefore consider a focus on research and the development of methods to protect various types of systems connected to the Internet to be crucial. These systems range from small sensors to large-scale control systems, such as those for critical societal infrastructure. The research encompasses everything from in-depth technical research to applied research in collaboration with industry and society.
The Cybersecurity program at the Department of Systems and Space Engineering, Luleå University of Technology, is now seeking an Assistant Professor to contribute to our activities.
Program Description
Cybersecurity focuses on technical security aspects and the protection of systems connected to the internet, including the protection of software, data, and hardware.
Job Responsibilities
As an Assistant Professor, you will be involved in the university’s educational programs, particularly our newly launched master’s program in cybersecurity, but also, where applicable, in undergraduate and graduate-level courses. In addition, the position involves pedagogical development work and research in one or more of our areas of specialization: AI security, memory-safe programming, cloud security, OT security, blockchain applications, security and resilience in 5G/6G networks, as well as security culture and innovation, based on your own research interests and ongoing research projects.
Qualifications
To be eligible for appointment as an assistant professor, the applicant must
- have earned a Ph.D. or hold a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a Ph.D.
Preference will be given to candidates who have earned a doctoral degree no more than five years prior to the application deadline. However, candidates who earned a doctoral degree or attained equivalent qualifications earlier may also be considered if there are special circumstances. Special reasons refer to leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, or other similar circumstances.

Term of Employment
This position is for a term of four years.
Tenure-Track Position
The purpose of the position is to provide the faculty member with the opportunity to develop their independence as a researcher and to establish a track record in both research and teaching in order to meet the eligibility requirements for a position as a university lecturer.
An assistant university lecturer shall, upon application, be promoted to university lecturer and granted a permanent appointment if he or she is qualified for a position as a lecturer, and is deemed suitable for such a position following an evaluation based on the assessment criteria specified below.
For the evaluation, the assistant associate professor must have completed higher education pedagogy training equivalent to 7.5 credits or have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge.
During the term of employment, the assistant associate professor must also have contributed independently, to a significant extent, and with high quality to the university’s research, as well as demonstrated good teaching skills.
