We hope you will help us build the sustainable companies and communities of the future The Department for Building Construction and Fire with approximately 40 employees is part of the Department of Civil Engineering and Natural Resources with approximately 430 employees. In order to strengthen research activities and teaching skills in fire engineering, we are now looking for an assistant university lecturer. Subject description Building construction includes loads, design, dimensioning, durability, bearing capacity, repair and strengthening of buildings and facilities made of concrete, steel, wood and other materials, individually or in combination, both under normal conditions, in cold climates and in the event of fire. Job duties As an assistant university lecturer, you will contribute to teaching and research in building construction and fire. The business will focus on fire and explosion safety in buildings and structures. You will contribute to the development of the research activities mainly by writing applications, conducting research and publishing research results. As an assistant university lecturer, you will also support the education in the fire engineering program, by participating as a teacher/course manager/examiner in fire-related courses and by being a supervisor for degree projects. Competence Eligible to be employed as an assistant university lecturer is a person who has completed a doctorate or has a foreign doctorate which is considered to be equivalent to a doctorate. In the first instance, it should be considered for employment who have completed their doctorate no more than five years before the end of the application period. If there are special reasons, the doctoral degree may have been completed earlier. By special reasons is meant leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical duties, duties of trust, or similar circumstances. Basis of assessment The following assessment criteria are applied for the position: • Scientific skill • Other assessment grounds Other assessment grounds: (equally weighted or ranked) • Ability to teach in English • Strong research background in determining the fire properties of materials • Strong research background in AI and scaling models between different fire testing methods. • Documented experience in supervision and teaching in fire engineering, including experience with digital tools such as Canvas and Inspera. • Very good communicative and social skills, including the ability to work effectively in a team. • High productivity in terms of applications and publication. Period of employment Scope and duration of employment: 100% for four years. Exam for university lecturer An assistant university lecturer must, after application, be promoted to university lecturer and a permanent position. If he/she has the authority for employment as a university lecturer and is judged suitable for such employment in accordance with the evaluation criteria stated below. Upon examination, it is required that the assistant university lecturer has undergone higher education education corresponding to 7.5 ECTS or alternatively acquired equivalent knowledge in another way. During the period of employment, the assistant university lecturer must also independently, to a considerable extent and with high quality, contribute to the university's research and demonstrate good pedagogical skills.
