Northern Sweden is a European space region with several major players who collaborate in space technology and space science. Luleå University of Technology (LTU) represented by the Department of Space Technology located above the Arctic Circle in Kiruna conducts research in atmospheric and planetary science as well as space systems technology together with research and postgraduate education. In close proximity are two other research organizations, for example the Swedish Institute for Space Physics (IRF) and the EISCAT Scientific Association.  The Department of Systems and Space Technology is looking for an assistant university lecturer to develop the research and educational activities at the Department of Space Technology in Kiruna. The department is an international, diverse team with approximately 25 academic staff and PhD students. We strive for courage, openness and trust in our daily work and communication. Our day-to-day activities are supported by high quality infrastructure such as systems testing and rocket propulsion laboratory facilities, small satellites, asteroid technology and spacecraft. You will work in the Space Engineering Systems group which focuses on payloads, spacecraft and launch vehicles for technical demonstration and use as well as space applications and exploration in the upper atmosphere, Earth orbit and planetary space. Job duties As an Assistant Senior Lecturer in Space Systems, you will conduct research in the field of nanosatellites and be involved in teaching topics such as on-board data management, spacecraft, space electronics, satellite communications. To realize your research, you will attract external funds from Swedish national and international organisations. You will work with the leading international space companies and agencies, users of space technology, universities and research institutions. You will also disseminate the research results by publishing in the international well-known journals and presenting at international conferences. You will also supervise PhD students and teach MSc courses. Competence Eligible to be employed as an assistant university lecturer is a person who has completed a doctorate or has a foreign doctorate which is considered to be equivalent to a doctorate. In the first place, it should be considered for employment who have completed their doctorate no more than five years before the end of the application period. If there are special reasons, the doctoral degree may have been completed earlier. By special reasons is meant leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical duties, duties of trust, or similar circumstances Basis of assessment The following assessment criteria are applied for the position: * Scientific skill * Other assessment grounds Examples of other assessment bases that can be applied: * administrative skills that are important with regard to subject content and the tasks included in the employment * ability to cooperate with the surrounding society * ability to inform about research and development work * be able to teach in Swedish and/or English Period of employment For this employment, an employment period of four years applies. Exam for university lecturer An assistant university lecturer must, upon application, be promoted to university lecturer and an employment until further notice, if he/she has the authority for employment as a lecturer and in an examination is deemed suitable for such employment according to the assessment criteria stated below. Upon examination, it is required that the assistant lecturer has undergone higher education education corresponding to 7.5 ECTS or alternatively acquired equivalent knowledge in another way. During the period of employment, the assistant lecturer must also independently, to a considerable extent and with high quality, contribute to the university's research and demonstrate good pedagogical skills. Other assessment grounds (weighted equally) - Successfully applied for and granted research funding - demonstrated scientific competence through own publications - demonstrated pedagogical skill by having taught or developed own course material with good results Information The position is located at the Department of Space Technology in Kiruna.
