Program Description

Electrical Power Engineering encompasses the study of sustainable systems for electricity generation and the transmission of electrical energy, as well as the interactions between power grids, electricity generation, and electricity consumption.

 

Job Responsibilities

Assistant professors are normally expected to be involved in the university’s educational programs, pedagogical development, and research. An associate professor’s responsibilities also include keeping abreast of international developments in the field and supervising doctoral students. Associate professors are expected to contribute to the university’s development efforts, work to secure external research funding for the department, and be available for leadership and administrative assignments.

Associate professors are also expected to lead research projects and communicate their results through academic publications, as well as be active within the research community in their respective fields.

As an assistant professor, you will strengthen the group and broaden its research activities, supervise doctoral students, and teach undergraduate students. Possible research areas include:

  • Operation and operational reliability of future transmission and distribution networks
  • Planning, acceptance limits (grid capacity), and reliability of future transmission and distribution grids
  • Protection of future transmission and distribution grids

 

Qualifications

To be eligible for appointment as an assistant professor, the applicant must have demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical competence. Equal consideration shall be given to the assessment of pedagogical competence as to that of scientific competence.

To meet the requirements for appointment as an assistant professor, the applicant must

  • demonstrate a research profile showing clear progression following the completion of the doctoral dissertation and scholarly contributions equivalent to at least two doctoral dissertations, including the doctoral dissertation
  • have worked as an independent researcher, including through
    • experience in research-related positions of trust, such as serving as a journal reviewer and/or thesis examiner
    • experience in competitively applying for and being awarded external funding for research and/or development projects
    • experience in playing a leading role in research projects
    • having published in collaboration with researchers in research environments other than their own
  • experience supervising doctoral students and having served as an assistant advisor to at least one doctoral student for at least two years, unless there are exceptional reasons to the contrary
  • demonstrate pedagogical competence through reflective experience, teaching skills, and instructional development
  • have completed higher education pedagogy training equivalent to 7.5 credits, or have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge
  • demonstrate the ability to engage with the surrounding community, including by
    • making new knowledge accessible to the surrounding community
    • incorporating societal needs into research and/or educational contexts.

  • ability to develop and lead operations and staff within the university
  • administrative skills relevant to the subject matter and the duties included in the position

  • ability to secure external research and development funding
  • ability to communicate about research and development work
  • ability to teach in Swedish
  • ability to develop courses at the basic and advanced levels
  • published research results, within one or more of the proposed specializations, in leading international journals
