The Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering offers unique, collective research expertise in the entire field of civil engineering and natural resources. The research subject Building Construction is now looking for an Associate Senior Lecturer who will contribute to the development of research and education in fire engineering.
Subject description
Structural engineering covers the loading, design, dimensioning, durability, load-bearing capacity, repair and strengthening of buildings and structures made of concrete, steel, wood and other materials, individually or in combination, under normal conditions, in cold climates and in case of fire.
Duties and responsibilities
As an Associate Senior Lecturer, you will contribute to teaching and research, particularly in fire safety research related to the areas of hydrogen safety and wooden buildings. Experimental as well as computer-based and theoretical work will occur, as well as literature studies, studies of regulations and standardization.
As an Associate Senior Lecturer, you will contribute to the development of research activities mainly by writing proposals, conducting research and publishing research results. The Associate Senior Lecturer will also support the education in the fire engineering program, by participating as a teacher/course coordinator/examiner in fire-related courses and by being a supervisor for degree projects.
Eligibility
To meet the requirements for employment as an Associate Senior Lecturer, the applicant must
- have a doctoral degree, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree
Priority should be given to those who have completed a doctoral degree within five years of the application deadline. However, those who have completed a doctoral degree or have achieved equivalent competence earlier may also be considered if there are special reasons. Special reasons are defined as leave due to illness, parental leave or other similar circumstances.

Other assessment criteria in descending order of importance:
- To be eligible, applicants must have a doctorate or equivalent foreign degree in fire engineering or another subject with direct application to fire engineering.
- You should have a very good knowledge of English.
- Experience in classroom teaching as well as supervision of graduate students in fire engineering is required.
- Practical experience in fire testing, in particular cone calorimeter and MCC
- Experience in teaching fire related courses
- Supervision of graduates in fire safety
- Knowledge in hydrogen safety
- Ability to obtain external research and development funding.
- You are expected to have the willingness and ability to work in teams and in international research networks.
- Ability to interact with the surrounding community
- ability to communicate research and development work
- Experience in writing scientific articles in highly ranked journals.
- Good communication skills in English, both oral and written.

Duration of employment
The period of employment for this post is four years.
Probationary period for Senior Lecturer
The purpose of the employment is to give the teacher the opportunity to develop his/her independence as a researcher and to gain merit both scientifically and pedagogically in order to meet the requirements for eligibility for employment as a senior lecturer.
An Associate Senior Lecturer shall, upon application, be promoted to Senior Lecturer and an appointment until further notice if he/she is qualified for an appointment as Senior Lecturer, and is assessed as suitable for such an appointment according to the assessment criteria stated below.
During the assessment, the associate senior lecturer must have completed a course in higher education pedagogy equivalent to 7.5 credits or have acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way.
During the period of employment, the associate senior lecturer must also have contributed independently, to a considerable extent and with high quality, to the university's research and demonstrated good teaching skills.
