The Division of Computer Science and Electrical and Space Engineering at Luleå University of Technology is currently seeking Associate Lecturers in the area of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (RAI) for a position that will contribute to our growing activities. The RAI team conducts fundamental research in all aspects of robotics with specific focus on aerospace and bio-inspired robotics. RAI's vision is to close the gap between theory and practice while having deep expertise in the field of field robotics. In addition, it is one of the largest academic nodes in robotics in Sweden. Specific application areas focused on include robotics for the mining industry, aerial inspection of aging infrastructure, multi-robot search and rescue missions, sensor fusion, and multi-robot coordination, including perception, decentralization, and mission execution. The RAI team is actively involved in several R&D&I projects in Europe, and RAI has participated in the DARPA SUB-T challenge with the CoSTAR team led by NASA/JPL. Duties and responsibilities As an Assistant Professor, you will participate in the development of teaching and research in the field of RAI. More specifically, research topics within the advertised position will include autonomous robotics with a focus on: - Formation control and trajectory tracking for non-holonomic multi-robot systems. - Event-driven control for non-holonomic single and multi-robot systems. - Safe docking and landing strategies based on control barrier functions. - Reactive task planning for multi-robot systems in indoor environments. - Reinforcement learning for UAV navigation and control. The position includes the following responsibilities: - Administration and teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses given by the Robotics and AI group. - Supervision of master and PhD students. - Applying for grants to initiate new project-based research directions. Applicants are expected to participate in the joint development of the education and research area and collaborate with research groups both within the department, the university and with other universities, colleges and other external partners, both nationally and internationally. Eligibility Qualified to be employed as Associate Senior Lecturer are those who: - Has a doctoral degree or holds a foreign degree considered equivalent to a doctoral degree. In the first instance, the doctoral degree should have been obtained no more than five years before the application deadline. If there are special reasons, the doctorate may have been obtained earlier. Special reasons may include leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, clinical service, positions of trust or similar circumstances. Criteria for assessment The following criteria are used to assess the position: - Scientific excellence in the specific research topics relevant to the advertised position. - Scientific excellence in the overall field of RAI - Experience in managing research projects at national, EU or similar scale. - Experience in teaching and pedagogical skills. - Proven experience in applying for funding. - Ability to interact and collaborate with others. Duration of employment The duration of this post is four years. Appraisal to Senior Lecturer The purpose of the employment is to give the teacher the opportunity to develop his/her independence as a researcher and to gain merit both scientifically and pedagogically in order to meet the requirements for eligibility for employment as a senior lecturer. An Associate Senior Lecturer shall, upon application, be promoted to Senior Lecturer and an appointment until further notice if he/she is qualified for an appointment as Senior Lecturer, and is assessed as suitable for such an appointment according to the assessment criteria stated below. During the assessment, the associate senior lecturer must have completed a course in higher education pedagogy equivalent to 7.5 credits or have acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way. During the period of employment, the associate senior lecturer must also have contributed independently, to a considerable extent and with high quality, to the university's research and demonstrated good teaching skills.
