The Department of Built Environment and Natural Resources (SBN) at Luleå University of Technology is looking for an Associate Senior Lecturer in Waste Technology with a focus on PFAS degradation to strengthen research and teaching in sustainable waste management and environmental technology. PFAS is a growing environmental challenge, and there is a great need for innovative technologies for effective PFAS degradation and elimination. The position will contribute to the development of advanced treatment methods, such as electrochemical oxidation, biotechnological solutions and combined processes, with a focus on practical application. The position is strategically important to meet society's need for sustainable solutions for PFAS management. Waste Technology is located at the Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering, which is a subject-wide department with many successful research groups and recognized educational programs. Waste Technology at LTU is ranked among the top ten research groups globally in the field. Subject description Waste Engineering covers all stages of waste management in society - generation, collection, treatment and disposal of waste, including recovery and recycling. The research aims to develop tools and methods for sustainable waste management and soil remediation. Duties and responsibilities An Associate Senior Lecturer will normally be involved in the University's education, pedagogical development and research. The applicant is also expected to contribute to international collaborations, supervision of doctoral students, participation in research projects, communication of its results through academic publications, and the provision of external research funding to the subject. Eligibility To qualify for the position of Associate Senior Lecturer, the applicant must - hold a doctoral degree, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree. Priority should be given to those who have completed a doctoral degree within five years of the application deadline. However, those who have completed a doctoral degree or have achieved equivalent competence earlier may also be considered if there are special reasons. Special reasons are defined as leave due to illness, parental leave or other similar circumstances. Assessment criteria The following assessment criteria apply to the post: - scientific excellence - other assessment criteria Other assessment criteria apply to this recruitment (weighted equally): - Demonstrated ability to secure research funding - be able to teach in Swedish and/or English - have previous research experience regarding PFAS. Duration of employment The period of employment for this position is four years. Examination for senior lecturer The purpose of the employment is to give the teacher the opportunity to develop his/her independence as a researcher and to gain merit both scientifically and pedagogically in order to meet the requirements for eligibility for employment as a senior lecturer. An Associate Senior Lecturer shall, upon application, be promoted to Senior Lecturer and an appointment until further notice if he/she is qualified for an appointment as Senior Lecturer, and is assessed as suitable for such an appointment according to the assessment criteria stated below. During the assessment, the associate senior lecturer must have completed a course in higher education pedagogy equivalent to 7.5 credits or have acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way. During the period of employment, the associate senior lecturer must also have contributed independently, to a considerable extent and with high quality, to the university's research and demonstrated good teaching skills.
