The Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering (SBN) at Luleå University of Technology is looking for an Associate Senior Lecturer driven by the interest to deepen its expertise in advanced environmental technologies, especially focusing on persistent pollutants such as PFAS, PAH, antibiotics and pesticides. The position is intended to strengthen the ongoing research within the Waste Technology research group, focusing on waste management, circular material flows, waste detoxification, and environmental remediation - all important areas to drive the development towards a sustainable and environmentally responsible society. The Associate Professor will contribute to the development of research and education by studying and developing advanced treatment methods and integrated treatment chains for waste, contaminated soils and groundwater.

Subject description
Waste Engineering covers all stages of waste management in society - generation, collection, treatment and disposal of waste, including recovery and recycling. The research aims to develop tools and methods for sustainable waste management.
Duties and responsibilities
An Assistant Professor will mainly be involved in research and teaching. You will supervise a PhD student and lead research projects. You are expected to co-author scientific articles for publication in international peer-reviewed journals and to present research results at national and international conferences. The tasks also include teaching and pedagogical development work as well as writing and submitting new project proposals for external funding. You are also expected to contribute to the research environment at the department through participation in meetings, events and collaborations.
Eligibility
To qualify for the position of Associate Senior Lecturer, applicants must
- hold a doctoral degree, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree.
Priority should be given to candidates who have obtained a doctoral degree no more than five years before the deadline for applications. However, those who have completed a doctoral degree or have achieved equivalent competence earlier may also be considered if there are special reasons. Special reasons are defined as leave due to illness, parental leave or other similar circumstances.

Duration of employment
The period of employment for this position is four years.
Appraisal to Senior Lecturer
The purpose of the employment is to give the teacher the opportunity to develop his/her independence as a researcher and to gain merit both scientifically and pedagogically in order to meet the requirements for eligibility for employment as a senior lecturer.
An Associate Senior Lecturer shall, upon application, be promoted to Senior Lecturer and an appointment until further notice if he/she is qualified for an appointment as Senior Lecturer, and is assessed as suitable for such an appointment according to the assessment criteria stated below.
During the assessment, the associate senior lecturer must have completed a course in higher education pedagogy equivalent to 7.5 credits or have acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way.
During the period of employment, the associate senior lecturer must also have contributed independently, to a considerable extent and with high quality, to the university's research and demonstrated good teaching skills.
