Are you the one?
We want to strengthen the research group construction production and technology at the department of industrial and sustainable construction with a new doctoral student in order to build knowledge through accompanying research about the possibilities of using digital twins for the management and control of mega-projects in green industrial transition. The research group conducts research and education within the construction process - from early planning and design via construction to management. Today, our core competencies are within management and information automation of the construction process as well as within industrial construction and production systems. The research group is a leader in Sweden in its core area and has around 25 employees, of which 10 are PhD students. The research is applied and based on current issues in close collaboration with stakeholders in the building and construction sector; companies and other organizations. Subject description Construction production and technology includes technical solutions, tools, methods and organization for planning, information management and control of a sustainable and integrated industrial construction process with associated business processes. Project description The doctoral project is connected to Luleå Industripark - part of the Green Transition in Northern Sweden and will be carried out in collaboration with Luleå Industripark's project management group and close stakeholders. With a focus on construction coordination, you contribute as a PhD student with new knowledge about the potential and prerequisite to apply a digital twin for project management and control in large-scale industrial projects and from a municipal community planning perspective. As a doctoral student and in dialogue with researchers, municipal and industry partners, you help identify knowledge development needs that may result from the green industrial transition, propose in-depth studies and formulate future research ideas. It may also be relevant to collaborate with closely related research projects, both within Luleå University of Technology and other universities.  Here you can read more about the Formas-financed project: https://smartbuilt.se/projekt/kunskap-och-kompetens/parallella-megaprojekt/ Job duties As a doctoral student, you work with a doctoral degree as the final goal after the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education. The doctoral education includes both training in scientific work and implementation of doctoral education courses with relevance to the research area. Those who are employed as a doctoral student must primarily devote themselves to their own research, but the position also includes institutional duties such as teaching and administrative work up to 20% of full time. The work as a doctoral student means great opportunities to define and plan your daily tasks yourself and how they should be carried out in dialogue with different parties. Qualifications Eligibility requires a master's degree in engineering (or equivalent basic eligibility requirements, Higher Education Ordinance ch. 7 § 39) in a relevant field, for example civil engineering, road and water engineering, architecture or industrial economics. You are expected to take initiative, develop your own ideas and work independently but also have a high level of cooperation. The research results will be presented at project meetings, conferences and in scientific journals, so it is good if you feel safe in that environment. As the research work is conducted as companion research and is very communicative in nature, we require that you have very good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in English and Swedish. The research method project requires, for example, the ability to follow and understand the content of construction coordination meetings and to be able to relate to the produced digital twin and its content. Meriting criteria are: • knowledge in construction project management and control • knowledge and skills within the construction process (design, production and/or logistics) as well as municipal processes • knowledge and skills in digital twins For further information on specific doctoral education see: Study plans for postgraduate education within the Faculty of Technology. A continued academic career at Luleå University of Technology can be an opportunity for further development. Information Employment as a doctoral student is time-limited to 4 years, teaching and other department duties may add up to a maximum of 20% of full-time. Location is Luleå. Access by appointment. The work involves travel and short stays in another location. As a doctoral student, you receive a salary according to a union-negotiated salary scale.
