The research subject national economy is looking for one or more PhD students. As a doctoral student in the subject, you will be part of the research environment within the department of social sciences with sixty employees. You will be placed within the subject group for national economics with around twenty employees. The research in the various subjects within the department focuses on various social science aspects within the environment and natural resources area. Within the department, both interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary projects are conducted, where researchers from national economics work together with researchers in the department's other subjects, but also with other researchers within and outside the university. We also strive to have a clear international stamp on our research. Subject description National economics analyzes questions about how society is organized to manage with limited resources. The research is focused on natural resource, energy and environmental economics. It applies microeconomic theories to analyze the functioning of energy and commodity markets and how these are affected by various political decisions and policy instruments Job duties During your studies, you are expected to be part of the research environment at the department of social sciences. This means that you practice scientific work in the form of publishing scientific articles in journals and at national and international conferences. You will also conduct research within one or more of the projects conducted at the department. You also study compulsory and optional doctoral courses. In addition, you can have the opportunity to try out the teaching role. An individual study plan is drawn up for your doctoral education, which is followed up on a semester-by-semester basis. The work as a doctoral student is problem-based. You will develop your skills to identify, define, formulate and address national economic problems. You will also develop your ability to work with theoretical and analytical questions. Placement location is Luleå, but the doctoral studies also mean that you will take courses in another location, study trips and conference trips, which promotes the development of valuable contacts, both in Sweden and internationally. You are also given opportunities to influence the institution's, department's and subject's activities, which is why we appreciate people who are proactive and driven. Qualifications In order to be admitted to postgraduate education in economics at Luleå University of Technology, you must have at least a master's degree with a major subject/field of economics, as well as very good skills in oral and written communication in English. For some of the projects that we recruit PhD students for, very good knowledge of oral and written communication in Swedish is also a requirement. Selection and ranking among the applicants is done with regard to the ability to assimilate education at postgraduate level. The applicants will be assessed on the basis of presented merits regarding the depth and breadth of their education and on the basis of their critical and analytical ability regarding scientific production, such as degree theses from basic level and advanced level as well as any other written scientific production. In connection with the application, you must submit a degree project/dissertation from your advanced level education. The scientific and linguistic qualities of the thesis/dissertation will form an additional basis for assessment.
