The Department of Health, Education and Technology at Luleå University of Technology offers degree programs at bachelor's, master's and master's level and in several subjects also education at doctoral level leading to a doctoral degree. The Department of Education, Language and Subject Didactics has extensive activities with research, development and teaching linked to teacher education and special education programs as well as to preschool and school. We are looking for a doctoral student in pedagogy with a specialization in special education to strengthen the competence in our special education programs Subject description Pedagogy encompasses learning, nurturing, teaching, training and other processes of influence in formal and non-formal contexts. It has a particular focus on relationships, participation, collaboration, communication, the teaching profession, digital technologies, and governance and management. Pedagogy has three specializations: general, special and early childhood education. Research within the specializations is based on their specific target groups, and in relation to conditions, content, actors and contexts in pedagogy. Work tasks As a doctoral student in pedagogy with special education, doctoral studies, doctoral courses and dissertation work are conducted. The interaction between the individual's conditions and the school's and society's conditions and resources to meet all individuals' differences is central. The interdisciplinary nature of special needs education involves a range of knowledge areas such as pedagogy and learning, philosophy, psychology, sociology, physical environment and health sciences. The special education research conducted deals with, among other things, philosophical conversations in various special education activities, digital technology in special education contexts, participation and inclusion, and students with special talents, with a special focus on students who also have disabilities (so-called twice exceptionality, 2e) in particular students with a diagnosis of NPF. We are looking for a PhD student to strengthen the ongoing research in the subject, especially in the described area of 2e in giftedness. As a PhD student, you will be part of the research environment within the department and are expected to contribute to the development of the research environment in special education. This includes scientific work with international publications as well as participation at conferences. Qualifications To be admitted to a doctoral program in pedagogy with a specialization in special education, you must meet the requirements for basic and special eligibility and be assessed as having the ability in general that is needed to benefit from the education. Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both oral and written, are additional requirements. For employment as a doctoral student in pedagogy with a specialization in special education, relevant education in the field is required. A teaching degree is a requirement. A degree in special education or special needs teaching is also required. Particularly meritorious is experience of pupils with so-called twice exceptionality (2e), especially in relation to NPF. Meritorious is experience of teaching and development work in school activities in the field of special education. Experience of teaching and supervision at university/college in special education is also an advantage. Great emphasis is placed on personal qualities such as good cooperation skills as well as the ability to work independently. Driving license for car is required. Place of employment: Luleå, starting as soon as possible. The PhD program is campus-based and cannot be studied remotely. Salary according to doctoral ladder.
