Do you want to contribute to a safe working environment in a research-intensive environment? Luleå University of Technology is now looking for a committed chemical and gas safety coordinator who wants to be involved in developing our safety work in laboratory and research activities. The position is located at the Department of Property and Service, which is responsible for the university's premises supply, university services and coordination of environmental, work environment and safety.
About the role
As a Chemical and Gas Safety Coordinator, you are the University's expert in chemical and gas safety issues. You have a key role in coordinating, supporting and developing activities in this area. You will work in close collaboration with the department's work environment engineer and fire protection coordinator, the departments' researchers and technicians, and through active participation in networks with other universities and authorities.
The role also includes monitoring legislation, regulations and external developments, as well as designing and communicating governing and supporting documents in chemical and gas safety. You coordinate notifications and permits for gases and chemical products for LTU's activities to the relevant authorities and are responsible for other university-wide authority contacts regarding chemical and gas safety.
During regulatory inspections, you act as a support for the operations and have a clear role in monitoring and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. You will also play an important role in the development and planning of training in chemical and gas safety and assist in the development of instructions and support materials to increase safety and knowledge in these areas. An important part of the assignment is also to develop the work and procedures for risk assessments linked to the handling of chemicals and gases.
In the real estate support's assignment for premises supply, such as construction projects and adaptation of premises, your expertise in chemical and gas management will be an important resource for risk assessments and impact assessments. Within the goal of LTU as a safe and sustainable workplace, you are also involved in development projects and in the daily work for the safe handling of chemicals, flammable goods and gases. Your expertise is important in the design and content of the university's web pages for work environment and chemical and gas management, which is an important support for the entire LTU's systematic work environment work.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or other relevant science degree.
- At least two years of work experience with responsibility for chemical management.
- Experience working with chemical products and gas in an academic or research environment.
- Good knowledge of chemical and gas safety legislation.
- Proven experience in working with risk assessments related to chemical and gas use.
- Experience with chemical registration systems.
- Experience working in a chemical laboratory.
- Experience in leading and managing projects.
- Very good communication skills in speech and writing in both Swedish and English.
Meritorious:
- Experience in handling and safety assessment of flammable gases and handling of flammable bags.
- Previous work with or responsibility for chemical registration systems.
- Experience from larger organizations, preferably in the public sector or university/research.
