Our scientific and artistic research and education are conducted in close collaboration with international, national, and regional companies, public sector organizations, and leading universities. Luleå University of Technology has an annual turnover of just over 2.3 billion Swedish kronor. We have more than 1,800 employees and nearly 21,600 students.

The HR department consists of 20 employees who are jointly responsible for both the strategic and operational HR work within the university and provide professional and qualified support in the areas of HR and payroll. We are now seeking a unit manager for the payroll unit.

Job Responsibilities

As unit manager for the payroll unit, you will be responsible for the unit’s operations and staff. The unit consists of six employees, and your role involves leading and developing work across the entire payroll process, including payroll runs, financial management related to payroll—such as reporting taxes and employer contributions—reconciliations, and statistics related to employment and payroll.

Responsibility for business travel policies and compliance with them, as well as contractual obligations toward the contracted travel agency, are also part of the unit’s mandate. The same applies to the administration of occupational pensions and insurance related to employment.

The role includes driving the work to automate our payroll processes and develop our support systems. Through your leadership, you contribute to the unit delivering high quality and efficiency to the organization. Together with your colleagues, you will develop, lead, and monitor the university’s internal payroll processes.

As a manager, you are responsive and foster a sense of involvement to leverage the expertise within the unit. You coach your team in their daily work as well as in development efforts with the goal of continuously improving operations. You view your role and your work as part of a larger whole and work across processes to provide comprehensive HR support to the organization.

You report directly to the HR Manager and are part of the HR department’s management team. There, you are expected to contribute your expertise to the department’s overall mission and ongoing change initiatives.
