Are you a good communicator and leader with a good understanding of the academic environment? Do you want to work close to the core business and contribute to strong communication? Then you could be our new Head of Unit at the Communications Department, where you will form a team with the Head of Department and other Heads of Unit.

The Communications Department is responsible for the University's internal and external communication, marketing and branding. The department's tasks include, among other things, graphic profile, research and education communication, press issues and the development and management of channels such as the web and social media.

The department also plans and implements major events, such as the Academic Ceremony, graduation ceremonies, Almedalen, Open House, education fairs and events in the House of Science, and runs the university's overall branding campaigns. In addition, the department provides communication support to the university's management, departments and operational support.

 

About the role

 

As head of unit, you are responsible for about 9 employees who mainly work with research and internal communication. You have personnel responsibility for the unit's employees. This means, among other things, that you hold employee and salary interviews, are responsible for the work environment and rehabilitation, and handle finances and authorization of invoices within the given framework.

Most of the work's deliveries take place in joint processes that involve employees from the entire communication department, as well as departments and other parts of the university. You and your colleagues therefore work in close collaboration with others in processes where responsibility, planning and implementation are shared.

The role requires you to help create structure, clarity and progress in these joint processes and ensure that the unit's expertise is utilized in the whole. You lead your unit, but work in a larger context where collaboration and a holistic perspective are crucial.

 

You work in close collaboration with university management, department management and researchers, where you and your colleagues are a qualified support to key people within the university.

 

You are part of the department's management team and work closely with the head of department and heads of unit. Together you are responsible for coherent and effective communication for the entire university.

The role also includes contributing to the development of the university's digital channels, web structure and internal communication flows, as well as following and implementing trends in, for example, AI and digital communication.

 

Selected tasks

  • Lead, support and develop staff and teams
  • Coordinate and develop work on research and internal and internal communication
  • Contribute to and drive work in joint communication processes across unit boundaries
  • Ensure close and professional support to departments and management
  • Drive development of internal communication and employee web
  • Contribute to the development of the university's web and digital structure
  • Collaborate with other units and external suppliers

Qualifications

 

We are looking for someone who has a good understanding of the role of communication in an academic setting and who wants to take on leadership responsibilities in a collaborative organization.

 

You have:

  • Academic degree
  • Good experience in research communication and internal communication
  • Good experience with CMS and digital communication channels such as emailing tools and experience of using AI in communication work
  • Good understanding of the academic environment, working methods and decision-making paths and used to working closely with university management
  • Experience in leading others, for example as a manager, project manager or in a coordinating role
  • You have good communication skills and express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish and English.

Scope and location

 

We are looking for a Head of Unit for the Communications Department for a full-time permanent position based in Luleå. A probationary period may apply.
