Luleå University of Technology (LTU) is launching a strategic initiative in artificial intelligence (AI) with the goal of strengthening education and research through the use of AI. As part of this initiative, ten research assistants will be hired across the university’s departments (two per department). The work is coordinated centrally within LTU’s AI initiative and is carried out in close collaboration with the other research assistants as well as the Vice Chancellor’s advisor on AI, Marcus Liwicki. In the role of research assistant, you will contribute to the development of education and research-related activities connected to AI. Job ResponsibilitiesIn the role of teaching assistant, you will help support and strengthen the use of AI in education, research, and operational support at the university. The work is carried out in close collaboration with the university’s departments, faculty, researchers, and administrative staff. Your responsibilities will include participating in and contributing to workshops, seminars, and discussions on the use of AI in education, research, and administrative processes. You will collaborate with key personnel at the department—such as program directors (HUL), faculty members, researchers, and managers in administrative support—to identify needs and opportunities related to AI. The role also involves identifying and disseminating best practices for AI use within the university, as well as contributing to the planning and implementation of activities that strengthen AI expertise at the department. The role also involves contributing to documentation, knowledge sharing, and reporting on completed activities. 

You will also support the department’s participation in the university’s joint AI initiatives. This includes, among other things, participating in the planning and implementation of LTU AI Day, which will be held on November 3–4, 2026. 

Qualifications and ExperienceYou must be admitted to a degree program at Luleå University of Technology in computer science, artificial intelligence, or a related field, such as Applied AI, Computer Science, or Civil Engineering with a specialization in Computer Science. Students in relevant master’s programs are also welcome to apply. You must have completed at least four semesters of full-time study, including at least two semesters at LTU. You must demonstrate strong academic performance in relevant fields such as computer science, artificial intelligence, or machine learning, and have completed courses with a clear connection to AI.Experience with generative AI, large language models (LLMs), AI agents, or related technologies is a plus. Programming experience—for example, in Python—as well as knowledge of relevant tools and frameworks is also a plus. Furthermore, experience with project work, student engagement, or work related to knowledge dissemination and educational initiatives is viewed positively. To succeed in this role, you are proactive, responsible, and a good team player. You enjoy communicating with diverse audiences, work independently, and actively contribute to the development of the department.Terms and ConditionsEmployment as an amanuens is governed by Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance. Only individuals admitted to a program at the first or second cycle may be employed as an amanuens (Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 5, Section 10). 

Hourly Wage/CompensationFor all assignments, you will receive an hourly wage as well as valuable work experience to add to your resume. Hourly wage depends on the difficulty of the task:Level 1: 156 SEK/hour (equivalent to approximately 25,700 SEK/month for full-time work).

Level 2: 171 SEK/hour (equivalent to approximately 28,200 SEK/month for full-time work).

Level 3: Decisions regarding other salary levels are made in consultation with the manager in accordance with the work and decision-making procedures.      &

InformationThe position is 10% of full-time, for 6 months, from August 1, 2026, to January 31, 2027, or as agreed. The place of employment is Luleå.The workload may vary over time and as agreed, but the goal is to distribute it in a way that is compatible with studies at the university.
