The research topic of Pervasive and Mobile Computing (PMC) addresses fundamental challenges in distributed systems and mobile networks that enable mobility, ubiquity, security and interactivity of computers, data, software and users. The pervasive computing paradigm allows technologies such as sensors, actuators and computers to take a back seat while end-users interact with them in a seamless way without users being aware of them, using state-of-the-art technologies such as cloud computing, Internet of Things and augmented/mixed/virtual/extended reality. Mobile computing enables continuous internet access for computing devices (laptops, smartphones, sensors, etc.) via a variety of access networks such as 5G while maintaining service availability. Mobility is enabled by devices seamlessly connecting to access technologies that scale to an application/service.
Topic description
Distributed computing encompasses computing systems and mobile networks that enable mobility, ambience, security and interactivity of computers, data, software and users.
