In the coming years, billions of kronor will be invested in Norrbotten and Västerbotten in major projects aimed at a more sustainable society nationally as well as globally. Luleå University of Technology is involved in several of these highly topical research projects and the social transformation that follows. We have a wide range of programs to match the skills that are in demand. We hope you want to help us build the sustainable businesses and communities of the future. Do you want to contribute to developing the field of work and organizational psychology in northern Sweden? At Luleå University of Technology, a major investment in the subject of psychology is currently taking place and in the autumn semester of 2025 we will start a five-year psychology program. As part of this work, operational research in work and organizational psychology is also established in collaboration with various organizations in Norrbotten. Subject description Psychology as a science is about a systematic exploration of human experiences and behaviors. The starting point is that people are biological, social and cultural beings who seek meaning and interpret themselves and their situation in the world. In work and organizational psychology, the focus is on individuals' work-related experiences, reactions and actions in relation to the content and organization of work. Project description Norrbotten is a region in transformation with major investments in industry and social development. This also brings with it major challenges for both existing and new businesses in recruiting, developing and retaining the workforce. A central component in working with these challenges is to enable long-term good working conditions for the benefit of employee well-being and performance. The current PhD project will focus on investigating the factors that influence the willingness to stay or leave these regional organizations, both among established and new employees. The aim is also to investigate what may be appropriate measures in these organizations to enable a higher degree of employees to remain in the organization over time. Examples of overarching questions that can be included in the project are:1) What organizational factors (for example, leadership) contribute to employees' willingness to apply for and remain in the operations concerned? 2) How can the organizations develop organizational conditions that enable more suitable employees to apply for and want to stay in the organizations? 3) How do employees perceive efforts aimed at retaining them in the workplace? 4) Does it make a difference for the willingness to stay in the organization whether employees live in the locality or not? In order to answer these questions, the current research project will be conducted in close collaboration with one or more workplaces in Norrbotten. Work tasks A PhD position involves both theoretical and practical work. As a PhD student, you will be trained in scientific work in the form of publishing scientific articles in journals and at national and international conferences. You will also take compulsory and optional doctoral courses. In addition, you may have the opportunity to try out the role of teacher. The current research project also includes contributing to the design of collaborations with management and employees in workplaces for data collection and design of intervention proposals. Qualifications You should have an academic degree with at least 240 credits, including 60 credits at advanced level. You should have knowledge in psychology, where experience of thesis and/or practical work in the field of work and organizational psychology is particularly meritorious. You should be highly motivated for research studies and have good collaboration and communication skills. It is important that you can express yourself orally and in writing in English and Swedish.
