Do you want to develop your research and teaching in an environment where collaboration with industry and society is a matter of course? With us, you will work with dedicated colleagues, access to modern research infrastructure and good opportunities to attract external funding. You are given the space to make a real difference for your students, your research and society at large.
The research subject Distributed Computing Systems at the Department of Computer Science, Electrical and Space Engineering at Luleå University of Technology is now looking for a postdoctoral fellow to contribute to our growing activities. The research topic Distributed Computing Systems conducts basic research in mobile and distributed computing, human-computer interaction and computer networks, applied in the context of smart cities and regions, benefiting both industry and society at large.
Topic description
Distributed Computing Systems encompass computer systems and mobile networks that enable mobility, ambience, security and interactivity of computers, data, software and users.
Project Description
The position focuses on developing new QoE models as well as QoE-aware orchestration mechanisms for cloud and edge environments for efficient provisioning of cloud-based immersive applications, including extended reality (XR), virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), cloud gaming services, and other latency-sensitive interactive services, over heterogeneous access networks such as 5G, 6G, and Wi-Fi. The successful candidate will work on areas such as:
Duties
As a postdoc, you are expected to perform both experimental and theoretical work. Most of your working time will be devoted to your own research, but you will also be expected to participate in the supervision of thesis workers and collaborate with PhD students. In addition, you may participate in other teaching activities at the department.
A postdoctoral position involves scientific work in the form of publication of scientific articles in journals and presentations at international conferences. A postdoctoral fellow is expected to take significant responsibility for the planning and implementation of his/her own research project.
Qualifications
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral fellow, a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree in computer science or a relevant field is required. A doctoral degree obtained no more than three years before the application deadline is an advantage. Candidates with an earlier PhD may also be considered if there are special reasons, such as various types of statutory leave.
The position is suitable for candidates with a strong background in distributed systems, mobile computing, cloud/edge computing, networking, QoE/QoS modeling or immersive media systems.
Potential candidates are expected to have published in highly ranked international conferences and scientific journals.
Information
The postdoctoral position is full-time and limited to two years. The location is Skellefteå.
