Luleå University of Technology is growing rapidly with world-leading expertise in several research areas. Our scientific and artistic research and education are conducted in close collaboration with international, national and regional companies, public actors and leading universities. Luleå University of Technology has an annual turnover of over SEK 2.3 billion. We have more than 1,800 employees and almost 21,600 students. The research at the Division of Machine Elements focuses mainly on tribology and its applications. The research group is highly international and consists of more than 40 researchers and PhD students and is one of the leading tribology research groups in Europe. The research is both of basic and applied nature and is often conducted in close collaboration with Swedish and international industry. We are currently looking for a postdoctoral researcher to help us further develop our research in the field of machine elements. Subject description Machine elements include analysis and optimization of machine components and component systems in terms of performance, lifetime, energy efficiency, reliability and environmental impact. Special emphasis is placed on issues in the field of tribology. Project description You will work with research in tribology and surface properties of fossil-free steels in production processes and their performance in applications that include harsh environments such as hydrogen. The research aims to develop knowledge on the link between chemical composition, material properties and friction and wear of fossil-free steels Work tasks The main research will involve tribological evaluation of steels with different alloy compositions and in degrading environments such as hydrogen as well as analysis of microstructure, mechanical properties and wear mechanisms. The work is mainly experimental, which requires good practical skills and detailed knowledge of tribology, tribological tests, surface analysis and material characterization. Qualifications To be eligible for employment, a PhD or equivalent foreign degree in mechanical engineering or materials science is required. A degree obtained within the last three years before the closing date for applications for this position would be an advantage. If there are special reasons, those who have obtained a doctorate earlier may be considered, for example in the case of various types of statutory leave. The research is mainly experimental in nature and you must have excellent practical skills and knowledge in tribology, tribological testing and analysis. You should have good oral and written communication skills and be fluent in Swedish and English. Experience in tribological testing in extreme environments such as hydrogen and surface analysis techniques with applications in tribology is an advantage. When evaluating candidates, special emphasis is placed on the following: - Knowledge and skills relevant to the project - Quality of previous research results - Personal skills relevant to research Information to be provided This position is a full-time position for two years.
