Luleå University of Technology has a total turnover of almost SEK 2.1 billion per year. We are currently 1,900 employees and have 18,700 students.
In the coming years, billions of kronor will be invested in Norrbotten and Västerbotten in major projects aimed at a more sustainable society nationally as well as globally. Luleå University of Technology is involved in several of these highly topical research projects and the social transformation that follows. We have a wide range of programs to match the skills that are in demand. We hope you will help us build the sustainable businesses and societies of the future.
Subject description
The subject covers research related to the integrated development and management of trusted network architectures, resource-efficient algorithms and programming paradigms that interact to create trustworthiness properties in selected applications.
Project description
You will work in one or both of two major European research projects: UPPRAISE and MEDUSA. These projects aim to develop intelligent, adaptive and sustainable industrial systems. The work covers areas such as AI-assisted automation development, digital twins, semantic modeling, secure data transfer and reconfigurable production architectures. The research is carried out in collaboration with leading industrial and academic partners in large-scale Horizon Europe initiatives, where LTU has a key role in both technical development and scientific coordination. In parallel with the project work, you will also contribute to the research in the AIC³ lab (Automation, Industrial Computing, Communication, and Control Laboratory), an advanced test environment for future industrial systems and cyber-physical environments. The goal is to develop robust, distributed and intelligent control systems for future digital and sustainable industrial infrastructures.
Duties and responsibilities
In this position, you will work on developing and integrating advanced digital solutions in both educational systems (UPPRAISE) and industrial applications (MEDUSA and AIC³). As a postdoc you will:
-Contribute to the development of AI-based educational platforms supporting personalized curricula and immersive XR environments.
-Participate in the development of safe and intelligent industrial automation systems that enable flexible and distributed manufacturing.
-Develop semantic models and apply model-based approaches to support reconfigurable system architectures.
Implement and validate decision support tools for energy-aware planning, predictive maintenance and resource optimization.
Develop and test multi-agent and distributed control systems using technologies such as IEC 61499 and real-time simulation - Use robotics, autonomous systems and digital twins to automate and optimize industrial processes
-Collaborate with academic and industrial partners to support technological innovation, ensure that project objectives are met and contribute to dissemination and knowledge exchange.
Qualifications
To be eligible for a postdoctoral position, you must have a PhD in computer science, automation, electronics, mechatronics, industrial IT or other relevant discipline. The doctoral degree must have been obtained no more than three years before the deadline for applications, unless there are special reasons.
In addition to the basic qualifications, the following qualifications are required:
-Scientific publications in areas related to Internet of Things (IoT), Industry 4.0, smart systems or AI-based automation technologies.
-Documented experience in applied research or development work in industrial digital systems.
-Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, OPC UA, PROFINET or similar.
Experience with distributed control systems, real-time systems, cyber-physical systems or secure data transmission in industrial environments.
Understanding of digital twins, semantic modeling or model-based system development.
-Practical experience in energy-aware planning and scheduling in manufacturing environments.
-Experience in programming and implementing intelligent automation or decision support systems.
-Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary and international research teams.
-Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
