Luleå University of Technology is growing rapidly with world-leading expertise in several research areas. Our scientific and artistic research and education are conducted in close collaboration with international, national and regional companies, public actors and leading universities. Luleå University of Technology has an annual turnover of over SEK 2.3 billion. We have more than 1,800 employees and almost 21,600 students. The Department of Economics is part of the Division of Social Sciences, which, in addition to economics, also includes the subjects of law, political science and history. Within the division, research focuses on various social science aspects of the environment and natural resources. The division conducts both intra- and interdisciplinary projects in which researchers from economics work together with researchers from the division's other subjects. Subject description Economics analyzes questions about how society is organized to manage limited resources. Research focuses on natural resource, energy and environmental economics. It applies microeconomic theories to analyze the functioning of energy and commodity markets and how these are affected by different policy decisions and instruments. Project description The Department of Economics at Luleå University of Technology is in an expansive phase and therefore needs to recruit a postdoctoral researcher to work in a research project that deals with risk sharing in public investments linked to the green transition. The project is based on research on public trade-offs around the green transition and related investments, and on research on both organized and informal risk sharing between different levels of political decision-making. The aim of the project is to conduct theoretical and empirical research on risk sharing in public investments linked to the green transition, and to develop proposals for how such risk-sharing models could work in practice for the public investments planned in the coming years in Norrland. The focus in 2026 will be on research on risk sharing between different public actors, while future work may also involve research on risk sharing between public and private actors. The research is funded within the framework of a collaborative project between Luleå University of Technology, Region Norrbotten, Region Västernorrland and the County Administrative Board of Norrbotten. Work tasks You will work in the above research project and be involved in the project's planning and implementation together with other members of the project team and collaboration partners. The work in the project comprises 80% of your working time. Teaching and course development at undergraduate and postgraduate level in economics is included in the tasks with 20% of the working time. You are also expected to participate in the collegial work of the subject and the department and participate in the work of applying for external research grants. Qualifications To be eligible for employment, a PhD or equivalent foreign degree in economics is required. It is an advantage if the degree was obtained no more than three years before the closing date for applications for this position. If there are special reasons, those who have obtained a doctorate earlier may be considered, for example in the case of various types of statutory leave. As the empirical part of the project concerns public investments at municipal and regional level in Norrland and involves collaboration with local partners, good knowledge of the Swedish language and knowledge of the Swedish political system are necessary. The implementation of the project also requires the ability to work both independently and with others. As the project will address links between green transition and public risk sharing, previous experience of research or other work in one or both of these areas is highly meritorious. Other assessment criteria are, in order of priority: - Proven experience in conducting applied research in environmental and natural resource economics. - Excellent ability to take initiative and work in multidisciplinary environments. - Pedagogical skills, such as university courses in pedagogy and experience in higher education are an advantage. - Good knowledge of English.
