Luleå University of Technology is growing rapidly with world-leading expertise in several research areas. We shape the future through innovative education and groundbreaking research results, and based on the Arctic region, we create global social benefits. Our scientific and artistic research and education are conducted in close collaboration with international, national and regional companies, public actors and leading universities. Luleå University of Technology has a total turnover of almost SEK 2.1 billion per year. We are currently 1,900 employees and have 18,700 students. In the coming years, billions of kronor will be invested in Norrbotten and Västerbotten in major projects aimed at a more sustainable society nationally as well as globally. Luleå University of Technology is involved in several of these highly topical research projects and the social transformation that follows. We have a wide range of programs to match the skills that are in demand. We hope that you will help us build the sustainable businesses and societies of the future. The Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering offers unique, collective research expertise in the entire field of civil engineering. The Civil Engineering research subject is now seeking a motivated researcher who will contribute to the science and technology of structural condition assessment, structural dynamics and application of composite materials Subject description Structural engineering covers the loading, design, dimensioning, durability, load-bearing capacity, repair and strengthening of buildings and structures made of concrete, steel, timber and other materials, individually or in combination, in normal conditions, in cold climates and in fire. Project description This project focuses on the development of self-monitoring fiber-reinforced cementitious composites (SS-FRCM) with dual purposes: strengthening load-bearing structures and enabling real-time monitoring of infrastructure condition. The research is divided into two main areas: (1) material development and characterization to ensure optimal sensory and mechanical performance, and (2) structural evaluation of SS-FRCMs under environmental stresses such as freeze-thaw cycles and chloride exposure. Your work will contribute to a more sustainable infrastructure by enabling proactive maintenance, reducing environmental impact and minimizing the risk of unexpected structural failures. Duties and responsibilities The main tasks of a postdoctoral researcher consist of research. You will conduct research with a significant experimental focus to be published in international peer-reviewed journals and presented at major conferences. The position also includes supervision of PhD and Master students, teaching and support in applying for research funding from research funders, the EU Framework Program or industry. Qualifications To be eligible for this postdoctoral position, you should have a PhD in structural engineering, civil engineering or a related field, with specialization relevant to structural strengthening and material performance. The doctoral degree should be completed at the time of starting the position. A doctoral degree obtained no more than three years before the closing date for applications is an advantage. Candidates who obtained their degree earlier may also be considered if there are special reasons, such as various forms of statutory leave. The following qualifications and experience are required: - A proven research background in structural reinforcement, with a focus on systems such as fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP), textile-reinforced cementitious systems (FRCM) or similar technologies. - A strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and conferences in areas such as structural strengthening, rehabilitation or related fields. - Proven experience in experimental research, especially in mechanical characterization and performance evaluation of strengthening systems under static and/or cyclic loading. - Laboratory experience including design of experiments, instrumentation (e.g. strain gauges, LVDT, DIC), execution of large-scale tests and data analysis. - Good understanding of structural behavior, failure mechanisms and durability issues in reinforced concrete and reinforced systems. - Good knowledge of English, both spoken and written, and ability to work independently and in teams. The following qualifications are advantageous: - Experience in full-scale testing of designs and/or collaboration with industry or public infrastructure stakeholders. - Experience in supervising Master's theses or mentoring young researchers. - Knowledge of sustainability aspects related to strengthening measures, such as life cycle performance or use of climate-friendly materials.
