We shape the future through innovative education and groundbreaking research results, and based on the Arctic region, we create global social benefits. Our scientific and artistic research and education are conducted in close collaboration with international, national and regional companies, public actors and leading universities. Luleå University of Technology has a total turnover of almost SEK 2.1 billion per year. We are currently 1,900 employees and have 18,700 students.
In the coming years, billions of kronor will be invested in Norrbotten and Västerbotten in major projects aimed at a more sustainable society nationally as well as globally. Luleå University of Technology is involved in several of these highly topical research projects and the social transformation that follows. We have a wide range of programs to match the skills that are in demand. We hope you will help us build the sustainable businesses and societies of the future.
The research subject Dependable Communication and Computation Systems (DCC) in the Division of Computer Science at Luleå University of Technology is now seeking a 1st Research Engineer. DCC includes research on algorithms, data structures, computational models and software engineering for the development of resource-efficient, distributed and intelligent systems with applications in the digital infrastructure of the future. The subject also has a special responsibility for didactic development in the fundamentals of computer science.
Subject description
The subject includes research related to the integrated development and management of reliable network architectures, resource-efficient algorithms and programming paradigms that interact to create reliability properties in selected applications.
Project description
The research in DCC is mainly focused on modern computing technologies, such as system design and validation of industrial control and automation systems, simulation and verification, neuromorphic computer architectures and communication.
You will work in the project 'Vector symbolic architectures as an algebraic programming language for neuromorphic computers', funded by the Swedish Research Council. The project runs during the period 2023-2027.
Your task will be to conduct research in the field of hyperdimensional computation and vector symbolic architectures, and to contribute research results to the above-mentioned project.
Work tasks
In this project, we will base our original methods on the mathematical apparatus of hyperdimensional computation and vector-symbolic architectures (VSA). As a Principal Research Engineer you will have the following tasks:
- Implement, optimize and run simulation code in Matlab and Python.
- Develop labs for upcoming courses in Safe AI and Knowledge Representation and Reasoning.
- Contribute to the implementation of planned experiments.
The position as a Senior Research Engineer mainly involves research in one of the most important topics for DCC. As a Principal Research Engineer you will contribute to research, publication and educational activities.
Qualifications
To be eligible for employment as a Senior Research Engineer, you must have a Master's degree in Computer Science with a specialization in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. We are looking for people with knowledge of high-dimensional randomized representation spaces, hyperdimensional computation (so-called vector-symbolic architectures) and basic methods in machine learning.
Information
Temporary employment, full-time for six months, with the possibility of extension up to one year. Place of employment is Luleå. Access according to agreement.
