We are now looking for a Senior Research Engineer in Forensic Science to contribute to our research. Our research is mainly in the field of environmental and natural resources law. Your tasks will involve supporting the work of two research projects.
Project description
The research at the various subjects within the Division of Social Sciences, which includes Forensic Science, focuses on various social science aspects of the environment and natural resources. The division conducts both intra- and interdisciplinary projects where researchers from Forensic Science work together with researchers in the division's other subjects, but also with other researchers within and outside the university. We also strive to have a clear international character in our research.
Duties and responsibilities
As a senior research engineer, you are expected to support the two ongoing research projects. The project, Clean-Mineral/Climate friendly mineral supply chains in transition to the green economy, analyzes the role of the institutional framework for the supply of certain battery minerals (lithium, cobalt, graphite, nickel and copper). It analyzes the EU Critical Raw Materials Regulation (CRMA) and the development of indicators for a sustainable battery mineral chain, followed by a comparison with other battery mineral producing countries to see to what extent these countries' institutional frameworks contain the identified sustainability indicators. Furthermore, the indicators are quantified to be incorporated into the technical models developed in the other work packages of the project.
You will also work within the research project, The Emergence of Efficient Markets for Recycled Materials: The Case of Critical Metals, investigating barriers to the formation of efficient markets for a selection of key recycled critical metals and minerals, including institutional barriers.
There is an opportunity to co-author papers related to the projects. Administrative tasks are also included, such as coordinating meetings with project partners, logistics of travel, workshops, etc. Travel for participation in meetings, workshops, conferences, etc. may also be included.
Qualifications
You should have a degree in law or equivalent. You should be analytical, used to working independently and sometimes under time pressure. You should have a very good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written.
The following would be an advantage:
- Experience in environmental and natural resources law (e.g. from advanced studies, research or other work)
- Previous experience of working or having contacts in the mining industry
- Good knowledge of English
- Experience of writing reports, consultation responses and the like for, for example, authorities or organizations
- Previous experience of working as a research engineer, research assistant or similar.
- Previous experience of working on projects.

The scope of the service is 12 months at 100% with appointment as soon as possible or by agreement, with the possibility of extension. Location Luleå.
