The Robotics & AI Group at Luleå University of Technology is looking for a motivated research engineer with a focus on hardware and/or software development for autonomous robots. The Robotics & AI Group is involved in many field-oriented projects, which requires a versatile and proactive person who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Project description You will be part of a prominent team and collaborate with a group of highly diverse people working in robotics and artificial intelligence. Duties and responsibilities - Focused on software - Translate existing MATLAB code into Python/C++. - Develop and optimize software systems for robotics using Python and C++. - Create and manage simulation environments customized for specific robotic applications. - Work with ROS (Robot Operating System) for robot control, navigation and perception. - Integrate software and hardware components for real-time robotic systems. - Collaborate closely with hardware engineers and researchers to ensure smooth system integration. - Focused on hardware - Design robot structures, including: - Concept development, visualization and rendering. - 3D modeling of parts and complete platforms. - Build and iterate physical prototypes using: - 3D printing, CNC machining and manual fabrication. - Assembly of robotic platforms and components. - Perform evaluation and testing in the lab and in the field. - Perform maintenance and upgrades of robotics hardware and lab equipment. - Collaborate closely with software engineers and scientists to ensure smooth integration between hardware and software. - Other tasks - Support software and hardware aspects during both lab and field experiments. - Support ongoing research projects. - Contribute to the development of the laboratory and maintain a functional and organized work environment. - Assist with documentation, installation and general laboratory tasks. - Assist with purchasing, inventory and logistics of mechanical and electrical components. - Provide ad hoc support to the team when needed in various technical and practical areas. Qualifications - Focused on software - Bachelor's or Master's degree in software engineering, robotics, electrical engineering or a related field. - Good knowledge of Python and C++ for robotics applications. - Experience with ROS1 or ROS2. - Familiar with robotic systems for control, perception and kinematics. - Comfortable working in Linux environments with tools like Git. - Knowledge of MATLAB for simulations and algorithm prototyping. - Basic knowledge of hardware interfaces, sensors and actuators is a plus. - Focused on hardware - Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical engineering, robotics or related fields. - Proficiency in 3D CAD software (preferably Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk Fusion 360). - Understanding of design for manufacturing (CNC, 3D printing). - Experience in interpreting and creating technical drawings. - Practical skills in mechanical prototyping, 3D printing and assembly of structures. - Familiarity with low voltage systems and mechanical integration. - Experience in building platforms (e.g. radio controlled vehicles) is a plus. Additional qualifications (desirable) - B driving license (EU). - Drone pilot certificate (EU). - Knowledge of AI/ML applications in robotics - Experience with hardware interfaces, sensors and actuators Information to be provided The position is full-time for 12 months.
