The Department of Health, Education and Technology is looking for a Professor and Head of Department in Education to be based at the Division of Education, Language and Subject Didactics in Luleå. Within the division, teacher education is conducted at all levels from preschool to upper secondary school; several of these programs are given in the form of distance education. At the department there are two research subjects in addition to Pedagogy; Mathematics and science didactics, Language and literature with a didactic focus. Research in Education at Luleå University of Technology is both interdisciplinary and strongly rooted in collaboration - both within the university and with external actors. The research often takes place in close collaboration with school principals and is based on their current development needs. The subject comprises three specializations: general education, special education and early childhood education. In general education, the focus is on relationships, participation, collaboration, teachers' professional development, practice-oriented research, school development, digital technology, aesthetic learning processes, music creation and sustainable development. Special education studies how educational environments can promote everyone's learning and well-being. Central themes are inclusion, supportive communication and participation for people in vulnerable situations - often with the support of digital technology. In early childhood education, the processes that affect children's learning and development are studied, with a particular focus on governance, management, teaching and systematic quality work in preschool. Education has a unique position at the university, where many employees work both in academia and in preschool or school activities. This provides very good conditions for collaboration, successful research and a strong connection to teacher education. Subject description Pedagogy encompasses learning, nurturing, teaching, training and other processes of influence in formal and non-formal contexts. There is a particular focus on relationships, participation, collaboration, communication, the teaching profession, digital technologies, and governance and management. Education has three specializations: general education, special education and early childhood education. Research within the specializations is based on their specific target groups, and in relation to conditions, content, actors and contexts in pedagogy. Work tasks As a professor and head of subject, you have a clear leadership role with overall responsibility for the development of the subject - this includes research, doctoral education and education at undergraduate and advanced levels and applies to all three specializations. You lead the staff working in the subject and are responsible for creating a sustainable development of both the research subject and the educational environment. A central part of the assignment is to attract external research funding, both independently and in collaboration with others, to strengthen the subject group's opportunities to conduct research. Together with other subject representatives, you contribute to developing the research environment at the department and at Luleå University of Technology as a whole. The work also includes teaching, supervision and examination at undergraduate, advanced and doctoral level. In addition, own research is included, as well as planning, leading and developing research and doctoral education in the subject - both nationally and internationally. As a professor and chair, your background may be in one of the subject's three specializations. Qualified to be employed as a professor are those who demonstrated both scientific and teaching excellence. Equal attention shall be paid to the assessment of pedagogical and scientific competence. To meet the requirements for appointment as professor, the applicant shall: - be outstanding in his/her field of study and have a record of scholarly activity of high international standard, showing a clear progression in quality - have a total scholarly output equivalent in quantity to at least three doctoral theses including the doctoral dissertation - demonstrate academic leadership, including - experience of research-related positions of trust as an expert, opponent and/or member of an examination committee - experience in research project management - experience of applying for and being awarded external funding for research projects in competition as the main applicant - experience of budgetary or other financial responsibility - experience of internal university assignments - experience of pedagogical leadership Information about the position The position is permanent and located in Luleå.
