The Department of Civil Engineering and Natural Resources (SBN) is recruiting a professor and subject manager to lead, strengthen and promote research in process metallurgy. All activities are quality assured by our professors and lecturers in a successful collaboration with business and the public sector. 65% of our research is externally funded, and we have well-established international partnerships with universities across all continents. The research topic process metallurgy deals with the sustainable extraction of metals from both primary and secondary raw materials using both pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical processes. The research in the area has a strong profile in experimental studies with advanced laboratory-scale equipment and the very latest analytical equipment for elemental and mineral characterization, thermodynamic modeling and field studies, all in collaboration with internal and external partners worldwide. Job duties The position as professor as well as subject representative includes an overall responsibility for leading and developing the subject including research, postgraduate training and education at basic and advanced level. Professors as well as subject representatives have a special responsibility to ensure funding of the activity and for contacts with the surrounding society. An important task is to continue to strengthen and develop the research topic and enable doctoral students, employees and students to grow. Competence Eligible to be employed as a professor is someone who has demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical skill. Equal care must be given to testing pedagogical as well as scientific skills. To meet the requirements for employment as a professor, the applicant must: • Be outstanding in their subject area and demonstrate original and innovative scientific activity of a good international standard, including a total scientific output that corresponds to at least three doctoral theses • Demonstrate academic leadership, for example via • Research-related assignments of trust such as expert, opponent and member of the assessment board • Lead national and or international research projects • Experience in competitively applying for and being granted external funds for research and development projects • Experience of internal leadership assignments within the academy • Demonstrate the ability to collaborate with the surrounding society, for example via o making new knowledge available to the surrounding society • Incorporate societal needs into research and/or educational contexts • Have experience in supervision at postgraduate level and, unless there are special reasons, have been the main supervisor of at least one doctoral student all the time from admission to the doctoral degree • Demonstrated teaching skills When recruiting professors as well as subject representatives, special emphasis must be placed on leadership skills, for example through • Experience of personnel responsibility, conflict management, personnel development • Self-awareness and ability to reflect on own leadership experiences • To demonstrate experience of budget responsibility or other financial responsibility Basis of assessment The following assessment criteria are applied for the position: • Scientific skill • Pedagogical skill • Ability to lead and develop operations • Other assessment grounds Other assessment grounds (weighted equally) • documented experience in initiating, implementing and developing productive collaborations with industry partners and researchers from other disciplines • documented ability to obtain external research and development funds • competence in development and leadership of operations and personnel at universities • experience in pedagogical development, both individually and within the faculty, for courses and programs as well as recruitment activities for students • experience in management tasks • the ability to teach in Swedish and / or English In addition, other objective grounds, such as the university's equality, equality and diversity goals, must be taken into account.
