RECAT - Research Center for Advanced Battery Technology is a new initiative at LTU that aims to strengthen education and research linked to battery production and related activities such as supply chain and life cycle management for batteries, vehicles and other applications, including recycling and circularity. As part of this initiative, LTU is recruiting a professor focusing on digitalization, real-time control and IT/OT integration for battery production, including digital twins, model predictive control, industrial IoT and advanced automation architectures. The goal is to develop next-generation production systems that are sustainable, data-driven and scalable. Subject description Cyber-physical systems focus on integrated software and application architectures with implementations of highly distributed embedded systems that interact with each other and their environment to enable safe, goal-driven, autonomous and evolvable solutions. Duties and responsibilities A professor should be involved in education, pedagogical development and research at the university. Professors are expected to contribute to the development work of the university, to be responsible for obtaining external research funding for the subject, both nationally and internationally, and to be available for management and administrative tasks. In addition, a professor is responsible for leading and developing research and educational activities within the subject. Professors should also keep up to date with international developments in the subject. The professor's duties based on scientific competence also include supervising doctoral students, managing research projects and communicating related research results through high-quality scientific publications, as well as being active in the research community of the subject and participating in international networks. As the role may involve collaboration with actors in security-sensitive activities, the position may be subject to security clearance under the Security Protection Act (2018:585). You therefore need to meet the conditions for undergoing such an assessment. Eligibility A person who has demonstrated both scientific and teaching expertise is eligible for appointment as a professor. Equal attention shall be paid to the assessment of pedagogical and scientific competence. To meet the requirements for appointment as professor, the applicant shall - be outstanding in his/her field of study and have a record of scholarly activity of a high international standard, showing a clear progression in quality - have a total scholarly output equivalent in quantity to at least three doctoral theses including the doctoral dissertation - demonstrate academic leadership, including - experience of research-related positions of trust as an expert, opponent and/or member of an examination committee - experience in research project management - experience of applying for and being awarded external funding for research projects in competition as principal applicant - experience of internal assignments within the university - experience of pedagogical leadership - have experience of supervision at doctoral level and, unless there are exceptional reasons, have been the principal supervisor of at least one doctoral student throughout the period from admission to the doctoral degree - demonstrate pedagogical skills through reflective experience, teaching skills and teaching development - demonstrate the ability to collaborate with the surrounding society, through, among other things - making new knowledge available to the wider community - incorporating societal needs into research and/or education contexts. Evaluation criteria The following evaluation criteria apply to this position: - Scientific excellence - Teaching skills - Other assessment criteria Other assessment criteria (in order of priority): - Proven scientific excellence in cyber-physical systems, automation or related fields. - Proven experience in applying these competences in industrial contexts, preferably in manufacturing or energy systems. - Strong track record of publications in internationally recognized journals and conferences. - Experience in supervising PhD students until graduation. - Demonstrated ability to attract competitive funding. Meritorious qualifications include experience in battery manufacturing, digital twin development, IT/OT integration or advanced model-based control.
