Luleå University of Technology is in an expansive phase and is implementing an initiative to strengthen research and education in cyber security by establishing a new research group in the area. The investment is directly related to the university's successful ICT environment with several strong research groups that offer good opportunities for synergy. We therefore see a focus on research and development of methods to protect various types of systems that are connected to the internet as important. These systems range from small sensors to large-scale control systems for society's energy supply, and the research covers everything from deep research at method level, e.g. algorithm development, to applied research in collaboration with other groups. The location of the position is at the Department of Systems and Space Technology, where Luleå University of Technology has gathered research in, among other things, computer science, information systems, signals and systems, and automation. The department's turnover is approximately SEK 330 million, of which education accounts for half and external funds for research for the other half. The department has well-developed collaborations with research institutes, business partners, universities and other authorities in both research projects and student projects. The research topic of cyber security is central and important for Luleå University of Technology to be able to actively participate and contribute to the development in strategically important areas around control, monitoring and instrumentation of technical processes and systems. This is particularly important and interesting in view of the green transformation that is taking place in the region with many newly established companies and industries. Cybersecurity links to adjacent research areas at the department such as information systems, distributed computing systems, cyber-physical systems, robotics and AI, and machine learning. The department also has a center formation in the area called the Center for Security in Society and Critical Infrastructures (CiSS) where we work on joint projects with our partners. The environment at the department is open, dynamic and brings together researchers from around twenty different nationalities as well as PhD students and students from all over the world. Job duties The main task is to establish and conduct research in the cyber security area with a focus on IT, OT and IoT security as well as cloud security. As a professor, you are expected to strengthen research and postgraduate education in the area and contribute skills that complement the area's current research profile. The position includes responsibility for research and supervision of doctoral students as well as collaboration with e.g. the process industry and companies in the energy sector. You are expected to develop national and international networks and seek external funds to finance and expand the research. Efforts within education at basic level and advanced level are also expected with teaching and supervision of students. Management assignments may also come into question, e.g. assignments as business manager. Competence Eligible to be employed as a professor is someone who has demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical skill. Equal care must be given to testing pedagogical as well as scientific skills. To meet the requirements for employment as a professor, the applicant must: • Be outstanding in their subject area and demonstrate original and innovative scientific activity of a good international standard, encompassing a total scientific output that corresponds to at least three doctoral theses • Demonstrate academic leadership, for example via • research-related positions of trust such as expert, opponent and member of assessment board • lead national or international research projects • experience in competitively applying for and being granted external funds for research and development projects • experience of internal leadership assignments within the university • Demonstrate an ability to collaborate with the surrounding community, for example via • make new knowledge available to the surrounding society • incorporate societal needs into research and/or educational contexts • Have experience in supervision at postgraduate level and, unless there are special reasons, have been the main supervisor of at least one doctoral student throughout the period from admission to the doctoral degree • Demonstrated teaching skills Basis of assessment For the position, the following assessment criteria are applied: • Scientific skill • Pedagogical skill • Other assessment grounds Other assessment grounds (weighted equally): • Skill in developing and managing activities and personnel within the university • Administrative skills that are important with regard to the content of the subject and the duties included in the employment • Ability to cooperate with the surrounding community • Ability to obtain external research and development funds • Ability to inform about research and development work • Experience of leading assignments, for example operational management in center formation • Be able to teach in Swedish and English Information The position is a full-time permanent position with location in Luleå or Skellefteå by agreement.
