The Urban Water Systems research group within the subject of Urban Water Engineering at the Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering, Luleå University of Technology, is looking for a driven and committed PhD student who wants to immerse themselves in issues related to pollution processes in nature-based stormwater systems. The Urban Water Systems research group has a strong position in research and education in urban water systems, mainly in the areas of stormwater and wastewater systems. The group includes about 50 people consisting of a number of senior researchers, Swedish and international adjunct professors and about 20 PhD students. The group has an extensive national and international collaboration network. The overall objective of the group is to contribute to the development of sustainable urban water systems.
Project description
Urban stormwater can cause problems related to both water quality and water quantity, and its management can also involve other objectives (for example, contributing to urban biodiversity or landscape). This project focuses on research-based solutions for stormwater management, to minimize the pollution load on receiving waters; reduce the risk of flooding in urban areas; and take advantage of the opportunities that stormwater runoff can offer.
Tasks
- Participate in method development and field campaigns to characterize plastics in the urban environment.
- Conduct interviews on the social acceptability of blue-green stormwater solutions
- Support PhD students in urban water engineering with field and laboratory work
Qualifications
A high school diploma and fluency in Swedish is required. Being enrolled in an educational program related to natural resources, water and environment is meritorious.
