Are you the one?

Do you want to develop your research and teaching in an environment where collaboration with industry and society is a matter of course? With us, you will work with committed colleagues, access to modern research infrastructure and good opportunities to attract external funding. You are given the opportunity to make a real difference for your students, your research and society at large.

The Department of Computer Science, Electrical and Space Engineering has gathered research in areas such as computer science, information systems, signals and systems, and automation. The department's turnover is approximately SEK 220 million, of which education accounts for half and external funds for research for the other half. The department has well-developed collaborations with research institutes, industrial partners, universities and other authorities in both research projects and student projects. The environment at the department is open, dynamic and brings together researchers from about twenty different nationalities as well as PhD students and students from all over the world. At the Information Systems research group at Luleå University of Technology, we now have a need to employ a researcher in information systems with a focus on information security and information classification.

You who apply will have the opportunity to belong to an innovative research environment that develops new knowledge about one of the great societal challenges of our time - to support and understand the digital transformation in companies and in society. The Information Systems research group is part of the Division of Digital Services and Systems, which also includes the Center for Distance-Spanning Technologies and the Center for Security in Society and Critical Infrastructures. The division consists of approximately 35 employees including researchers, teachers and project managers.

Description of subject

Information Systems focuses on the design and use of information technology in relation to people, organizations and societies.

Project description

You will work within a research project that follows the transition from Rakel to SWEN to create knowledge about how users, organizations and authorities deal with the change of a new critical infrastructure for information management and situational awareness.

In addition, the position will relate to research on total defense in the northern space by building resilient communities under hybrid threats. In particular, you will work within a team whose research in this area focuses on critical (information) infrastructures for socially important activities - from the seabed to space systems - and their relation to the strategic conditions for governance, vulnerability and resilience in the High North. Based on the unique geographic, infrastructural, economic and demographic conditions in the far north, the work is expected to contribute to knowledge development on how critical infrastructure and governance systems can be designed and coordinated to withstand hybrid threats and armed conflicts to enable a future-oriented total defense in a geographically vulnerable region.

Tasks

Tasks include, in addition to research within the mentioned project, participation in a research academy for young researchers, in national and international networks for total defense in the north, and in a collaborative platform for societal resilience that connects academics with public and private stakeholders.

The position means that you will:

  • Work on research tasks (e.g. leading and collaborating in research projects, communicating and disseminating research results through academic publications, presentations of results to different stakeholder groups and other research communication, and participating in applications for external research funding)
  • Network and collaborate with stakeholders in the region, nationally and internationally
  • Be active in the research community in your own subject area

Qualifications

To be eligible for employment as a researcher, a PhD in information systems or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a PhD is required.

The following points are meritorious:

  • Ability to lead and develop research initiatives
  • Experience from practical research projects related to information security
  • Knowledge of risk analysis and management, information security and classification
  • Experience in research data management
  • Experience in international research cooperation
  • Experience in teaching in the field of security at undergraduate and/or and/or advanced level as well as educational efforts for other clients
  • Ability to collaborate with the surrounding community
  • Ability to collaborate within the university
  • Knowledge of the conditions in the northern space and continuity planning in the public sector
  • Ability to obtain external funding for research and development
  • Good communication skills in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing.

This position may be placed in a security class in accordance with the Security Protection Act (2018:585)
