The Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering (SBN) is one of our departments here at Luleå University of Technology. Within the department we have a division for building construction and fire. To strengthen the research activities and teaching competence, we are now looking for a researcher in fire engineering with a focus on in-situ computed tomography of fire-affected wood.

 

Description

 

Fire Engineering includes research on technologies and processes relevant to fires and explosions, as well as related research on risk management and societal safety.

 

Project description

 

You will work within a new and dynamic research group. The current project deals with delamination of wood products, such as CLT and glulam, under fire conditions.

 

Tasks

 

As a researcher you will contribute to the development of research activities in the field of fire engineering. The work will focus on the development of in-situ tomography of fire-affected composite wood products. Other fire testing, such as cone calorimetry, may also be included in the tasks, as well as some degree of modeling. You will also participate in teaching by participating as a teacher in wood and fire-related courses and supervise degree projects.

 

Qualifications

 

To be eligible for employment as a researcher, a doctoral degree in wood technology or a foreign degree that is considered equivalent to a doctoral degree is required.

 

The following are requirements:

  • Experience in in-situ tomography of fire exposed wood
  • Research experience in flame retardant treatment of wood and its durability
  • Very good knowledge of English

The following are meritorious:

  • Good ability to collaborate in groups
  • Good ability to write research applications
  • Good knowledge in fire engineering

Information

 

The position as a researcher is a fixed-term employment, full-time, for one year. Location Luleå, but start in September 2026, or as agreed.
