The Wood and Bio-nanocomposites research group at the Department of Materials Science, Luleå University of Technology, is seeking a researcher for research and development in bio-based porous materials. With us, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to the development of sustainable materials from renewable raw materials and to work in a research environment focused on materials development, process engineering, and advanced materials characterization. You will be part of an interdisciplinary research environment where a fundamental understanding of materials is combined with the development of new materials and applications. This research contributes to the transition toward a more circular and resource-efficient use of materials.
Course Description
Wood and bio-nanocomposites involve the development of energy-efficient manufacturing methods for environmentally friendly composite materials and products based on various biofibers at the nano- and micrometer scales.
Project Description
You will work on the research and development of bio-based porous materials with the potential to contribute to sustainable material solutions for the future. The work involves developing material concepts, investigating how the materials’ structure and composition affect their properties, and evaluating potential applications. You will be part of a research team where experimental work is combined with analysis and scientific evaluation. Depending on the project’s focus, the work may include the preparation and modification of porous materials, process development, and the characterization of the materials’ morphology, pore structure, and physical, mechanical, or functional properties. This position is an extension of a project focusing on cellulose-based porous structures that form strong hydrogels.
Job Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include conducting and developing research on bio-based porous materials, with a focus on material synthesis, structure, and properties. You will plan and carry out experiments, analyze and interpret results, and contribute to the development of new bio-based materials.
The work also involves:
Qualifications
To be eligible for employment as a researcher, you must hold a Ph.D. in materials science, materials engineering, chemistry, or another relevant field, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a Ph.D. We are looking for someone with a strong interest in research and materials development, with a focus on sustainable, bio-based materials. You have a solid scientific foundation and experience in experimental research, as well as the ability to independently plan, carry out, and evaluate research tasks.
Requirements for the position:
The following are considered a plus:
We place great emphasis on personal qualities. You possess strong analytical skills, work in a structured and independent manner, and collaborate easily with others. You are proactive, curious, and motivated to develop new research ideas. You also have the ability to communicate scientific results and actively contribute to an inclusive and creative research environment.
