Luleå University of Technology is one of Sweden's leading universities in the field of machine learning, especially in deep learning, with a high concentration of ELLIS (European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems) researchers, as well as unique laboratories for field robotics, deep learning and human-computer interaction. The university is a leader in Sweden in industrial collaboration. The Machine Learning (ML) group is now looking for researchers to contribute to our growing activities. The ML group conducts fundamental research in machine learning for societal welfare, with a particular focus on self-supervised learning, brain signal analysis and industrial AI. To strengthen our team in AI for health and medicine, we are now recruiting a researcher in AI and machine learning for precision health. The ML group is part of the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP). WASP is Sweden's largest ever single research program, a major national investment in strategically motivated basic research, education and faculty recruitment. The program addresses research in artificial intelligence and autonomous systems that interact with humans, adapt to their environment through sensors, information and knowledge, and form intelligent systems-of-systems. The vision for WASP is excellent research and competence in artificial intelligence, autonomous systems and software for the benefit of Swedish industry. Work tasks As a senior lecturer, you will participate in education, pedagogical development and research at the university. You will keep up to date with international developments in the subject and supervise PhD students. Senior lecturers are expected to contribute to the development of the university, work to obtain external funding and be available for management and administrative tasks. Duties also include leading research projects, disseminating results through scientific publications, and being active in the research community in their subject area. Furthermore, you will be expected to collaborate with healthcare stakeholders, industry and society and contribute to the activities of the WASP program nationally. You will be given the opportunity to develop your independence as a researcher and to qualify for higher teaching posts. Eligibility To be eligible for appointment as Senior Lecturer, candidates must: - A doctoral degree or equivalent scientific competence or other professional competence relevant to the position - Demonstrated pedagogical competence through reflective experience, teaching skills and teaching development. - Completed higher education pedagogical training equivalent to 7.5 credits or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge Those who have demonstrated both academic and teaching skills are eligible for appointment as senior lecturer. Equal weight shall be given to the assessment of teaching and research skills. Assessment criteria The following assessment criteria apply to the position: - Scientific excellence - Teaching skills - Other assessment criteria Other assessment criteria The following assessment criteria apply (in order of priority): - Scientific excellence in AI and machine learning for precision health, in particular in cardiovascular AI, explainable and interpretable AI, neuro-AI (EEG, fMRI, dementia, BCI), physiological data and medical image/microscopy analysis. - Excellence in basic and applied research, demonstrated by publications in leading AI/ML and medical imaging journals/conferences (e.g. MICCAI, CVPR, Scientific Data). - Experience working with different modalities and diseases, including CT, ECG/EKO, EEG, genomics and medical registries. - Experience in both industry and academia, with proven ability to translate research into robust, practical solutions. - International research experience, interdisciplinary collaborations (preferably with hospitals) and mobility. - Pedagogical skills, including teaching and course development, with potential to take a leading role in course planning. - Ability to lead research teams and interdisciplinary collaborations. - Ability to collaborate with healthcare providers, industry and society. - Ability to communicate scientific results to different audiences. - Demonstrate a strong research profile with scientific contributions. - Have worked independently as a researcher e.g. positions of trust, external expert roles, project management. - Demonstrate experience in international collaboration and co-publication e.g. with medical researchers, doctors, hospitals, universities and multidisciplinary teams. - Have experience of supervising bachelor's theses, master's theses and preferably co-supervision of PhD students. - Have demonstrated the ability to interact with the surrounding society, e.g. by disseminating knowledge and integrating societal needs into research and education.
