The Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering offers unique, collective research expertise in the entire field of civil engineering. The Research Subject Civil Engineering is now seeking a highly motivated researcher who will contribute to the science and technology of structural condition assessment, structural dynamics and application of composite materials
Subject description
Structural engineering covers the loading, design, dimensioning, durability, load-bearing capacity, repair and strengthening of buildings and structures made of concrete, steel, timber and other materials, individually or in combination, in normal conditions, in cold climates and in fire.
Duties and responsibilities
As a Senior Lecturer, you will participate in the development of teaching and research in the areas of structural condition assessment, structural dynamics and application of composite materials.
The position includes the following responsibilities:
- Administration and teaching at undergraduate and graduate level in courses given by the Structural Engineering group
- Supervision of master and doctoral students
- Applying for research grants to initiate new project-based research directions
As a senior lecturer, you are expected to participate in the joint development of the education and research area and collaborate with research groups within the department, at the university and with other universities, colleges and external partners, both nationally and internationally.
Eligibility
Qualified to be employed as Senior Lecturer are those who:
- holds a doctoral degree or a foreign doctoral degree considered equivalent to a doctoral degree in civil engineering or equivalent.
- Demonstrated pedagogical skills through reflective experience, teaching skills and teaching development.
- Completed a course in higher education pedagogy equivalent to 7.5 credits or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge.

- Use of Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) systems for real-time and long-term assessment of the condition of civil infrastructures
- Extensive laboratory and experimental research experience in structural engineering, including full-scale and component-level testing
- Application of non-destructive testing (NDT) methods for condition assessment of structures
- Experience in the use of non-contact techniques for damage and crack detection
- Experience in integrating structural modeling, computational methods and experimental results into a comprehensive condition assessment and design framework
- Experience in assessment, evaluation and strengthening of existing structures, with a focus on ageing or weakened infrastructure
- Experience in supervision of undergraduate, master and PhD students
- Ability to obtain external research funding
- Ability to interact with the surrounding community
- Proven experience in teaching at university level
- Ability to communicate research and development work
- Experience in writing highly ranked scientific articles
- Good communication skills in English both in speech and in writing
- Demonstrated ability to secure research funding
- Proven experience in participation and management of R&D projects.
