The Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering offers unique, collective research expertise in the entire field of civil engineering. The Civil Engineering research subject is now seeking a highly motivated researcher who will contribute to the science and technology of structural condition assessment, structural dynamics and application of composite materials. Subject description Structural engineering covers the loading, design, dimensioning, durability, load-bearing capacity, repair and strengthening of buildings and structures made of concrete, steel, timber and other materials, individually or in combination, in normal conditions, in cold climates and in fire. Duties and responsibilities As a Senior Lecturer, you will participate in the development of teaching and research in the areas of structural health assessment, structural dynamics and application of composite materials. More specifically, research topics within the advertised position will focus on: - Integration of structural health monitoring and proof load methodology for early warning of infrastructure - Dynamic analysis of bridges and other infrastructure and assessment of dynamically induced fatigue damage - Structural application of composite materials to replace traditional reinforcements The service includes the following responsibilities: - Administration and teaching at undergraduate and graduate level in courses given by the Structural Engineering group - Supervision of master and PhD students - Applying for research grants to initiate new project-based research directions As an applicant, you will be expected to participate in the joint development of the education and research area and to collaborate with research groups within the department, at the university and with other universities, colleges and external partners, both nationally and internationally. Eligibility Qualified to be employed as Senior Lecturer are those who: - holds a doctoral degree or a foreign doctoral degree considered equivalent to a doctoral degree in civil engineering or equivalent. - Demonstrated pedagogical skills through reflective experience, teaching skills and teaching development. Assessment criteria The following assessment criteria apply to the position: - Scientific excellence - Teaching skills - Other assessment criteria Other assessment criteria (weighted equally) - Experience in dynamic analysis of bridges and other infrastructure. - experience in fatigue assessment and damage detection - Experience in laboratory and field testing, especially in structural health monitoring on site - Experience in structural application of composite materials, such as FRP. - Ability to obtain external research and development funding. - Ability to interact with the surrounding community. - Ability to communicate research and development work. - Experience in writing scientific articles in high ranking journals. - Good communication skills in English, both oral and written. - Ability to translate research results into practical applications to reduce the gap between theory and societal challenges.
