Luleå University of Technology is one of Sweden's leading universities in machine learning, especially deep learning, with a high concentration of ELLIS researchers (European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems) as well as unique laboratories for field robotics, deep learning and human-computer interaction. Furthermore, LTU is Sweden's leading university in terms of industrial collaboration. The Machine Learning (ML) group at the Department of Computer Science, Electrical and Space Engineering at Luleå University of Technology is now looking for outstanding researchers to contribute to our growing activities. The ML group conducts fundamental research in machine learning for the benefit of society, with a particular focus on self-supervised learning, brain signal analysis and industrial AI. The ML group is part of the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP), Sweden's largest single research program to date and a major national investment in strategically motivated basic research, education and faculty recruitment. The program is also part of the newly established RECAT research center, which focuses on battery research and on building a leading, interdisciplinary competence in Sweden. To strengthen our activities in AI for battery research, we are now recruiting a distinguished researcher in AI and machine learning for battery research, with a particular focus on: - Fundamental aspects of AI/ML methods for battery research - Natural language processing and technical language processing for applications relevant to the battery industry - Establishing excellent training activities together with other researchers within the center Subject description Machine learning focuses on methods by which computer systems use data to improve their own performance, understanding and to make concrete predictions and is closely related to applications. Duties and responsibilities A Senior Lecturer will be involved in teaching, pedagogical development and research at the University. Senior lecturers should also follow international developments in the field and supervise doctoral students. Senior lecturers are expected to contribute to the development of the university, work to obtain external funding for the subject and be able to undertake management and administrative tasks. The duties also include leading research projects, communicating research results through scientific publications and being active in the scientific community within their own subject area. Furthermore, senior lecturers are expected to collaborate with other researchers within the RECAT project and with industrial partners. The position offers the opportunity to develop independence as a researcher and to qualify for future teaching positions with higher qualification requirements. Eligibility To be eligible for the position as senior lecturer, the applicant must - A doctoral degree or equivalent academic qualifications or other professional skills relevant to the position - Demonstrated pedagogical competence through reflective experience, teaching skills and teaching development. - Completed higher education pedagogical training equivalent to 7.5 credits or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge Assessment criteria The following assessment criteria apply to the position: - scientific excellence - pedagogical competence - other assessment criteria Other assessment criteria (in order of priority): - University degree in physics or equivalent academic background is an advantage. - Scientific excellence in AI and machine learning for industrial applications, in particular in large language models, technical language processing and explainable and interpretable AI; experience in battery research is an advantage. - Experience in both basic and applied research, documented by publications in leading AI/ML conferences as well as application-oriented conferences and journals. - Experience working with different data modalities, including text, images and domain-specific data. - International research experience, interdisciplinary collaborations and mobility. - Teaching skills, including course responsibility and participation in course development.
